Tough new world with NIL $$$ money ??
The old Southwest Conference was awash with dirty money, now with NIL it is clean! The teams ended up in SEC, Big 12 and others, but the money ?? is still there….
We will be at a disadvantage when a recruit’s choice comes down to ???? money…..

Everybody throwing dollars at recruits to get them to commit. This is strictly against the rules, but in the new liberal world rules no longer apply. Come on November.

If I had to bet it would be OU is closer to home and they offered him more money. We need to get use to it because this will continue to happen where bigger schools will have bigger Nil deals.

Him, and his family prayed to $$$$$$ Gods, and turning his back on his prior commitment was easy with the cash being promised. We all know that Dabo promises nothing but hard work that could possibly help them to a big payday, and Dabo also gives them guidance on what it takes to be good honest men, good husbands, and terrific dads through out their lives, and that worth more than anything else they could get from a college coach. Reid Mikeska allowed the $$$$$$ God cause him to miss the most important ride he could have ever taken bc, 98% of these HC'S only care about one thing from the kids, perform, perform, perform, or hit the transfer portal!!!

Come on, what have we done to deserve a TE commitment? We absolutely refuse to use a TE in the passing game other than to block, no TE has had any success since Leggett. I understand fans upset that he decomitted but come on, this is this kids dreams that we would end up wasting by not using him. Until we start using the TE in more ways then as an OLman this will happen more than not.

I agree with everything you about why a TE wouldn’t want to come to Clemson. All very valid points. But my question is what has changed since he committed to Clemson when it comes to those issues? Did he not know that a month ago?

You are correct. College football is going to be dead and basically just the semi-pros. It's sort of been on its last gasp since Covid, but this is going to destroy it. This year, we should have the best defensive line, our best line since 2019 (hopefully), okay receivers, and a great running back stable. If Dabo doesn't have the guts to see the writing on the wall and yank DJ before he blows our shot (we're not going to get the benefit of the doubt after last season), it's over. I don't know if he's elite, but I do know Cade's our only shot.

BV knows he has to win big coming out of the gate or he
May 12, 2022, 10:57 PM

won’t be there long. Say what you will, but Lincoln Riley set the bar high there and then bounced for greener pastures. BV, Bates, & Chavis are going after whatever they can in every way they can. It’s only a matter of time until it will all backfire on them. If Brent respected Dabo like he said he did, he wouldn’t be doing some of the things he’s done. I’m willing to bet, though, that Dabo will still be at Clemson long after BV’s time at OU is done.

Lincoln Riley is a worm in the same mold as the ex OSU, Jacksonville Jag great head guy. His decision making is exposing his heart. Soon he will fall... No high bar set by him, just user and abuser of table scraps.

It's like this ...
May 12, 2022, 11:20 PM
|
|
1) Kid receives big-time Clemson offer. 2) Dabo and/or asst provides "no travel rule" upon Clemson commitment. 3) Rule goes in one recruit ear and out his other. He's excited & accepts offer. 4) Kid continues to communicate with friends, teammates & college coaches (because he does not live in bubble.) 5) The bird in the hand is nice. But that grass on the other side looks pretty green. 6) Kid gets offer from another big-time school. Maybe closer to home. 7) Kid's friends get invited on a trip to said school. Maybe even get offered. 8) Kid ejects from Clemson offer. Wants to hang with friends and see that green grass.

Definitely wasn't all-in obviously. The NIL is a huge factor now so it could be that but Venables is just doing his job and I can't wait to play them. We will lose our leverage to teams like Southern Cal and Texas if we don't figure out this NIL situation, there's no way around it unfortunately.

Those all seem like pretty viable reasons the kid would’ve decommitted . . . Are you saying that these are excuses that aren’t given to the basketball team?
People don’t like the way nil is affecting football. I can’t blame them for that. I’m not so sure it’s having the same effect on basketball. Just apples to oranges with differences in roster sizes, one and done, and alumni dollars involved.
As far as being mad at the kid or him not being “all in,” . . . meh . . . they’re kids. I really don’t think this is a generational thing. The decision-making portion of an 18-yo’s brain is literally not even close to fully developed. Dabo asks a lot with the “all in” thing. I think it’s a good lesson. If I were dabo, I’d definitely pull the offer at this point, not out of spite, but because it’s the right thing to do if you want to teach kids about accountability. End of the day, kids and their decision making ability haven’t changed, but the landscape they’re trying to navigate has gotten way more complicated with lifetime consequences more pronounced.
I don’t like seeing a football kid decommit any more than i do a basketball recruit. But truth be told, we shouldn’t want a kid at clemson if it’s not what’s best for him . . . Because then it’s not what’s best for clemson either.
What do you think judge?

We all take it as a personal insult or something. Obviously something changed which may or may not get someone's seal of approval for "reasons to decomitt" If you had a kid, would you want them being bashed on a board like this. I thought we were better fans than those of another particular program in this state?

NIL?? Wonder how many kids think of future vs $$
May 13, 2022, 2:49 AM

And I bet 95% of the time, it isnt even the kids but the parents see a 6-digit number and their eyes explode. Mind you that could be $105k, the parents know they get to buy a couple new cars and tell the young adult to take B college after committed to A college which was the best choice for the future.

Coaches know this is their future of coaching by swiping players. If they can, with giant wallets behind them, like OKSt or Houston or aTm or Tex, there is no way a good school with quality coaches will compete with all NFL talent versus quality 3-4* talent. As crazy as this sounds, even with SEC schools raking in 2x the $Millions over quality sports schools like Clemson, FSU, Kentucky, Louisville, maybe even Florida, LSU, or like UNC or Iowa? Those schools won't compete with the giant millionaires that walk with oil money for Texas, drug and immigration money from Tex & South Florida, or huge alum like ND or OSU. All the above.
Good schools like Clemson, VT, BC, Virginia, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, etc, will never find a niche when the NIL is so wide open.
End of the day, people with Alumnus status, family attachment or just southern football pride will be willing to invest way more into their college officiation than they ever would in a professional league. If NIL doesn't change soon, there will be 2 Divisions of D1 schools. The rich unlimited professional teams playing for TV rights. Then you have the Clemson's that play as Student athletes with academic requirements. I bet at the end of the day, the second D1 gets better ratings on TV, otherwise just watch the NFL.
I hope the NCAA gets some big baseballs soon to change the landscape of my favorite sport. I watched less this last season than I have since ESPN started many yrs ago.

As a Clemson fan living in Arkansas, times are tough. We can't keep one 4 star TE, yet Arkansas has 3 of them committed. Its sad to see everything that Dabo worked to create, get destroyed by NIL, but it is happening now.

Clemson will not throw to a TE hardly at all, they are used for blocking & that's basically it here at Clemson. No TE wants to end their career with a total of 150 receiving yards and 1 TD. Craps got to change with these playbooks or we are in trouble. Screens to the boundary & running up the middle 95% of the time gets us nowhere anymore. Gotta get creative or we need to get use to this type of thing.

Could not BV remove his invitation as a sign of his loyalty to Clemson?

the nosedive of character that seems to be a trend by some...I'm talking about some individuals on this board-not some 18 year old kid. Those bashing and insulting this kid-please serve up all of your life choices so we can take a look and pass judgement. Somewhere there is probably something a little worse from changing your mind about where to play football. Geezz-grow up!

I don’t get all the weeping and gnashing of teeth. I’ve only seen his Hudl videos and he’s pretty good. He’s a good blocker and a decent receiver, but he’s a plodder and rather clumsy at times and goes down when hit by small high school DBs. Mike Ditka would truck any high school DB and that being tackled that easily doesn’t translate well to the college game. He’s a fair prospect and with the right coaching he could be decent, but he’s not Kellen Winslow or Brock Bowers. Just let it go. There’s better out there. It’s not worth the stress and he’s not worth another thought. Screw Venables and OU. As a Texas fan I tried to tell you.
If Venables is behind this, the Dabo could get revenge by running off his son. But, Dabo is a better person than most of us.

I wonder if every old white guy on this message board giving grief to 17 year old kids for decommitting to a college before they've even signed anything also think you must marry someone you propose to (with a ring) and then you have to stay married to them forever. Hmm?

myself and many others would get down voted to oblivion for dare stating the fact that clemson would suffer when it went into effect and places like southern cal would flourish..got the same old same old "why would a kid go to southern cal they suck" routine...meanwhile in reality

that he would leave Clemson kids alone… first Kanak and now Mikeska. I’m not concerned about the coaches— they are hopefully mature enough to make their own decisions. Start waving $$& at the kids and of course they will bolt.

I hope Venables falls flat on his face and is fired in 3 or 4 years!!! I have lost all respect for him. He may turn out to be even worse than Lincoln Riley. You can't see it, but I'm giving him the middle finger as I hit the button to post this...
