Just my opinion, but I think your take is a little exaggerated. I don't think one loss will kill us as a program. I think the 11-2 loss to Will and Mary is unacceptable.
My big issues involve the overall health of the program. Prior to the 2012 recruiting class our recruiting has been just downright terrible for a program like ours. I understand that the draft is going to get the top end talent, but the quality of talent we were bringing in was not good. Recruiting 5 foot 7 slap bunters is not what Clemson baseball is about. Go out and get those powerful hitters who have a pure swing, but may be a 25th or higher draft round pick. We are getting outworked on the trail for those guys who are right on the edge of heading to the draft. That is the concern I hear from most.
Nobody is saying the guy cannot coach. He obviously can do that. Coaching is just one half of the equation. I know baseballfan will argue with me till he is blue in the face about how hard it is to recruit talent these days, but I'm just not going to buy it. The rate at which we recruited prior to 2012 would compare to a Duke basketball program not finishing within the top 25 in recruiting for 4 straight years.
Recruiting is the lifeblood of a program. If your not willing to get your hands dirty in that area your not going to be successful.

I think that's pretty good. Granted, lost yesterday ... but won the day before ... Baseball is a marathon, not a sprint ... Tigers this early in the season, are doing good. Hey! Liberty University of Lynchburg, Va beat #3 USCAR today 3-2! USCAR sucks, fire 'em all! Gosh, Virginia has good Baseball Teams!

what "Clemson baseball is about"? I think that's Jack Leggett's call and if he wants to recruit guys that can run and cover lots of ground in the outfield, then he'll do it. You don't have to like it, but it isn't you decision to say what "Clemson baseball is about". I guess you think he should only recruit 6'4" sluggers. Well, they aren't necessarily any better than "5'7" slap bunters". Give over the size issue. It doesn't matter in baseball. Thomas Brittle may be 5'8", but he's a heck of a baseball player. His 20 foot bunt single today was a thing of beauty. The "powerful hitters who have a pure swing" aren't 25th round draft picks. You don't know jack **** about recruiting. Comparing Clemson baseball to Duke basketball is a stupid comparison. Duke has won 4 National Titles in basketball and doesn't have to worry about players not showing up on campus. You do realize that Clemson lost a lot more signees to the draft when Kevin O'Sullivan was in charge than it has since he left, aren't you? He thought it was good to lose players to the draft. We'll see what happens to him this year since his freshman class got raided last June.

to see a few of those big old kids who can park that darn ball. Thos. Brittle has exceptional speed and will beat out many bunts and still many a base. Bud, I will take that home run over a slap bunt anytime, especially, when you have one of two on the pond.

with the way things are now in college baseball, the home run is becoming quite rare. In the entire College World Series last year there were maybe half a dozen home runs. That's why coach Leggett is leading the effort to upgrade the ball to the one the Minor Leagues use. Until that happens, the way it is now is the reality. Virginia moved home plate out about 5 feet during the off-season and Clemson has discussed doing the same thing, although coach Leggett likes the field the way it is with the fans so close to home plate. I think Richie Shaffer would qualify as a "big strong guy" and he only hit 10 home runs last year. Before the bat change, that would likely have been twice that. The days of 25 home run seasons are over, especially at Clemson, until something is done either about the equipment or the field.

Tanner didn't move the fences in...

that place has been a bandbox since it opened. I get so sick of seeing "Tanner did....". Ray Tanner also got a brand new 30 million dollar stadium. No one seems to want to admit that. Now Clemson doesn't need a 30 million dollar stadium, but it DOES need the upgrades that are planned. Moving the fences at Doug Kingsmore would be terrible because then there'd be this huge gap between the fence and the stands. The outfield was built with the fence where it is and moving it would suck. Like I said, Clemson has discussed moving home plate out, but coach Leggett really doesn't want to do that.

1 of their sophs, powers, got the national player of the week ( two granny's in one game will do that for ya, esp. when he hits .500 for the series) they also have 10 soph's + 2 rs freshmen , so if that class last june was raided, i'll hate to see what sully does when he get's most of his guys in! i enjoy your posts baseball fan, and 99.9% of the time you are spot on, i just guess this is one of those .1's. i like our team this year, and i like leggett as the hc, but, i would bring in sully in half a heartbeat, if we got the chance.
