Columbia to Clinton I-26 traffic report help

Leaving the Lowcounty zero dark thirty on Saturday (did I mention how I love noon games?!?) and when I drove up for the NC State game it took took over two hours from Broad River exit to I-385! Tons of road construction with resulting narrowed lanes and congestion.
Is it any better now or do I need to allow more time?
TIA!
GO TIGERS!

You could take 178 the whole way and avoid I-26 altogether

but that kind of depends on where in the Lowcountry you are leaving from.

I live near the Peak Exit 97...

...and we always take 176/219 to I-26 to Exit #76 to bypass the Chapin to Newberry I-26 construction. Same on the return. We have kids in the upstate so we make that trip often.
The Peak Exit 97 is a mess also, so you need to check traffic on Apple Maps once you get to the Irmo area. It often slows a bit just past Exit 101 where 3 lanes goes to 2 lanes. They haven't yet opened the new lanes since they are still working on the Peak and Chapin exchanges.
Now that beach traffic has died down, it's a little better on that stretch of I-26 on the weekends.
Watch out for coot drivers with mullets and large pickup trucks in that area. At least there will not be traffic to/from the Roach Saturday.

I-26 and 385 are the quickest routes. I would just use your mapping software on your phone to direct you. If there is a blockage, it will show you in red and you can take Hwy 76/176 to skirt around it?

Jump over to 216 through Jenkinsville and bypass all of that mess

Early in the morning on a Saturday might not be too bad. But 216 is all country roads.

Can't really help you on saying it'll be better because I doubt it will. Our politicians deserve a big fat F on sc roads. 25+ years ago it should have been 3 lanes minimum from Charleston to Clinton on 26 as well as minimum 3 lanes on 95 the entire state.
Apologies for the rant. I'll pray you don't run into any "wide loads " but it's a nightmare white knuckle drive. Personally, I'd take others advice and go the backway. May be a little slower but imo less stressful.

When I got out of Clemson in 90, I said the same. Start construction now from Gville to Charleston. No one listened, ha

The speed limit drive on Saturday is usually fine on early Saturday mornings. Construction has been going on for years and who knows when it will be completed. Noon games in the fall are great so enjoy.

Sometimes we take the backroads from Beaufort up through Hampton, Allendale, Savannah River Site, Abbeville and Anderson. It’s a nice drive and a lot less stressful than that Columbia to Clinton corridor.

Check the SCDOT cameras and use WAZE and 🙏🏻!
If it gets to be too bad I’ll use secondary roads as backup. At least the weather is going to be great!
Plan is to leave Charleston area 5:30am with “hopes” on being at parking lot by 10:30.
GO TIGERS!

Take I-26 to 95. Go south to 78 at St. George. Take it to near Aiken and by-pass to 19, to 25. take it to 86 which will take you to 81 which will take you to Slab Town and take 88. Do not know where you are parking.
