My dad finally got the call for his kidney transplant!

9 years of waiting, in surgery now in Augusta. And he tells us before he went back for surgery “God knew it was a bye week for us”.

and for the surgeons amd staff performing the transplant. Also thanks to the person who signed up to be an organ donor. I take care of "donor" patients after brain death is pronounced until organ recipients can be crossmatched and identified for compatibility. Its an emotional time for everyone though families normally take solace in k owing there is some positive from their loss.

Fantastic news!!! I'm a kidney donor myself ( left kidney, May 25, 2012) and on the board of Donate Life SC. I'm also a retired physician. I'll be pulling for your Dad, big time.
Actually, the procedure for the recipient is very easy and straight forward. The donor kidney will come out laparoscopically ( no need to crack ribs of the donor (very painful)to get to the kidney, as was the case several years ago.
Your Dad will have the donor kidney placed in his pelvis, RIGHT beside his bladder. The artery, vein and ureter will attached and he will be good to go! Really pretty straight forward. He will be 'peeing' for the first time in years and tears will stream down his cheeks, and also for the family.
Not much to worry about, but it's only natural, especially after 9 long years of dialysis and waiting and thinking 'this will never happen' !

That's great news! I donated a kidney 6 years ago to a lady I sat next to at work. She was back at work in 8 weeks. I have no scar to show because they took the kidney out of my naval.

Great need! So happy surgery went well and now I pray for a speedy recovery. May God give you and your family peace and comfort letting you know everything with you Dad will be fine. Tell him to take easy this week so he can be will rested for NC State.
