Once again - 1 day early for Memorial Day but please

61

May 28, 2023, 7:48 AM

indulge . Remembering Nam buddy Arturo Lopez of El Paso, Texas on the 53rd anniversary of his death on a riverside( May 28,1970) near the birthplace of Ho Chi Minh. Never the opportunity to become a husband, a father, or grandfather like so many taken too early. Three other friends also wounded severely that day.... tough times.

Grew up with Calvin, we shared many adventures together. Died fighting from a helicopter in VN. He is one of many friends I lost there.

I wish I had the words to say but there are none when you are honoring brave men who fought for the freedom of the South Vietnamese people and their freedom. Prayers for the families whose sons never came home and prayers for those who live with the memories of Vietnam. 🙏🙏🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

He was certainly a very accomplished scout. No doubt led to an outstanding citizen and warrior. A neighbor who was a couple years older didn't survive as a gunner on a helo. Thanks for your service.

Not mine but seems appropriate for the time we live in and echos my sentiments...

"The true superheroes don't wear masks and capes; they wear fatigues, combat gear, and dress uniforms. We can never thank you enough for your heroic service to our country."

Thank you Clover, Arturo and your brothers in arms. You are not forgotten.

I recently wrote over 13,000 words about our Men's BBall team, using Don McLean's "American Pie" as a framework of sorts. Agree or disagree on the first 12,000, the most important of which were likely the last 49:
.
.
.
For a generation of young listeners though, its repetitive “bye, bye Miss American Pie” perfectly fit various ‘failed coming of age’ themes, and was co-opted even to the Vietnam War, may they never be forgotten. One hopes the estimable Mr. McLean will forgive this “author” for using his words....

Will keep your friends and the many other men and women who died in Vietnam in our thoughts and prayers . We lost a few friends lin Nam for a political war that LBJ should have let the right Military personnel prosecute the way the war was fought. Not with one hand tied behind the United States back. To many useless good young men sacrificed. I believe if our Military was unleashed it was a winnable war. Especially after the Tet offensive when the VC were basically wiped as as a viable fighting force. That’s when LBJ should have turned up
the heat ! Walter Cronkite sold us out after Tet. IMO he was wrong and he swayed public support against the war.

Since you were there Clover65 what is your opinion ??? I admire you and the other brave men and women who were a part of the Vietnam War. Thank you !

As a whole , the guys on the ground felt like we should have done as we did in Afghanistan and Iraq (in the beginning- not near the end) and blown away the North's leaders and all infrastructure with air power.
