Question about Tiger Paw Logo
Mar 2, 2005, 6:37 PM
|
|
Hello board, I'm a new guy here (and yes a VT fan). I was recently in clemson at the game and noticed that the tiger paw on the floor (and everywhere else for that matter) had a small chunk missing out of it in the bottom of it. I was wondering if there was any segnifiance of this and if so exactly what it was. Feel free to just drop me an email (in order to save space) at hallcharlie22@hotmail.com. Thanks in advance for your help and congrats on the win last night!

You talking about the "hook" on the bottom right?

The tiger paw was cast from a real tiger's paw so it was probably part of the mold. Plus, I think the hook is what allowed us to trademark the Paw.

A chunk isn't "missing" per se, it is simply that the logo was made by literally dipping a Tiger's paw into orange paint and stamped, which made the very unique logo.

Tiger Paw
The Tiger Paw is the athletic symbol by which Clemson University is most often recognized. Henderson Advertising developed this copyrighted logo in 1970. Many schools use a similar paw, but Clemson's is unique - because it was taken from the print of a real tiger, it has a fishhook-shaped wrinkle in the lower right-hand area of the paw and is tilted at the 1 o'clock position.

My oldest son graduated from New York Institute of Technology last May. While at the graduation he noticed they were using the trademark print of the Tigerpaw. After returning home he got in touch with the A.D.DEPT. they in turn was going to look into the matter, because this was a no no without C U,s consent.

Most in the ACC think it's the best gameday atmosphere you'll find in the ACC (though i know the NCST fans were mighty impressed with their trip to Lane this year.) Most CU fans seem to think quite highly of VA Tech (our universities seem to have alot in common.) And, I know from personal experience that most of the VA Tech fans I ran into at the Gator Bowl a few years back were a classy bunch. You have a great gameday atmosphere and good coach.
