Talk Shows

Once they thought their purpose was to become political mouthpieces for the Democratic party, and that they thought they knew better than the rest of us, they signaled their own eventual demise. I think Leno was the last one who was fairly apolitical (he would skewer either party pretty equally). I don't think Fallon is that bad, politically, but Colbert and Kimmell's shows are nothing but left wing politics and angst, and they make no bones about it - if you don't agree with them, you're an idiot (at best!).
I never tuned in to late night talk shows, or daytime talk shows for that matter, for political insight or commentary. I would tune in for laughs and maybe a musical guest. Certainly they had their niche audience who felt the same way they did and liked hearing someone parrot their own views, but not everyone feels the same way they do and they do NOT have the moral high ground. I've watched Fallon from time to time b/c he's unique, generally funny, and is good with the musical guests. I used to watch Leno pretty religiously, and always enjoyed Letterman and his Stupid Human Tricks while I was at Clemson. But Kimmell and Colbert - nothing but politics. At least Colbert was civil about the Kirk assassination.
Shows like The View or The Talk make things even worse. They make even Oprah look good and neutral. I think the future of daytime talk is with folks like Kelly Clarkson who just stick with entertainment and music - as it should be.
The days of Carson, Leno, and even Letterman are over. I don't see late night talk shows being around much longer. It'll shift to cable/premium channels, instead, I think. But the fascination with celebrity is growing old and tired and the distance between the haves and have-nots seems to widen and they become more and more out of touch with reality.
The times - they are a'changin.

I'm sure the Stephen Miller show will be a barrel of laughs.

Lettermans show was great and you had no idea about his politics nor did you care. Unfortunately if he were broadcasting today he'd assume we all wanted to hear his most intimate thoughts on what's wrong with the world and his show would suck. Hes lucky he broadcast in an era that saved him from himself. Cant say the same thing about today's clowns.

What if... you know... you just didn't watch em?

No one should ever ##### about a show and its content; just don't watch it.
And I need to know why so many grown men "conservatives" are always pitching a fit about The View? Who da fuq cares about The View? I've never seen a single episode. I couldn't tell you who is on it now. Why is that such a trigger for these dudes?

Don't watch the View either. Couldn't care less about 'em. Definitely not "triggered" by them (that's a word for your generation, apparently - if my generation finds something offensive or whatever, most of us just avoid it, which is what I do). Point was that they're alienating potential viewers and at the rate they're going, there won't be any late night talk shows anymore - certainly not like they used to be.
Don't get your panties in a wad.

That was meant more of a general "you" but you also brought those topics into the post, so don't get upset when they're addressed.
And I'm Gen X, just like you.
As a younger generation may say, calm thy t!ts.

Yeah, but so many people don't watch network TV and get their hate from places like Fox News that spends maybe half of the day with hate promotion.
