Tajh Boyd

Aug 23, 2016, 9:21 PM

I had a discussion today with a friend of mine who happens to be a Carolina fan. He said Tajh won a lot of games for us, broke a lot of records and he set the tone of the program to what it is now. He went on to say that All the games he didn't win outweighed all the games he did win. I didn't really have a comeback for that because (and I hate to say it) he kinda had a point there. I just threw out the Citadel game, and told him they will not beat us the next 6 to 8 years.

I just want some other folks opinion on this because he shut me down after he said that.

I disagree the bowl games he won against LSU and Ohio State elevated our program and outweighs any losses

That LSU game was one of my 2 all time favorites. Plus that Ohio State game was outstanding.

Don't forget ACC Championship

A lot of Happy Clemson folks that year as it had been WAY too long.

Only knock against Tajh is winless vs Dirtpeckers. His loses does NOT outweigh his wins. Not IMO.

Yeah I disagree completely, and that's not through orange-colored glasses. First two games that come to mind on the "win" side are LSU and Ohio State, versus the FSU embarrassment debacle from two years ago. I would posit that the two bowl wins against "vaunted" SEC schools did far more for our program than that FSU loss did to hurt it.

I think some people view the losses to SCar outweighed other things he did. Tajh led us to wins over FSU and VT (twice) to win the ACC title in 2011, beat Auburn, UGA, LSU, Ohio State out of conference. There were some disgruntling losses - namely to SCar - but also to WVU, NC State, and the beatdown loss to FSU.

All that said, during that time period, we never beat SCar and that blemish haunts that era. Of all the amazing things Tajh and those teams did, never beating SCar is something Gamecock fans will hold onto forever. I think what Tajh did for Clemson was remarkable to get us back on the map. Like you said, he set the tone for the future of the program. No need to bash him for a few losses. If those teams beat SCar once or twice, but lost to LSU/UGA/Ohio State, people would be saying Clemson "couldn't win the big one." Instead, the rhetoric is that SCar was in our heads those years, but as a whole, the Clemson program was building a foundation to end up where we are today.

It's not even close he won an ACC championship, BCS bowl, beat a defending national champion, beat three straight top 25 teams (ACC first), and beat very good UGA and LSU teams. Only a #### fan would think the games he lost outweighs the games he win especially since he is the winningest QB in school history.

Brad Brownell: more losses than any other coach in school history.

I was at the Chik-fil-A bowl vs LSU

Aug 23, 2016, 9:40 PM

and saw Boyd getting pounded for the first 3
quarters; sometimes i thought he might be hurt.
But he kept getting back up and in the 4th quarter
it all came together like it was destiny and it was
awesome. I've never been prouder of a Clemson player.
In hindsight, we'll always wonder if he should have
gone pro after that game, but 2013 was a good season
and he got Orange Bowl revenge and had a great
Clemson career.

That LSU game was magical and was an emotional roller coaster for everyone in orange that night. I remember when that field goal went thru the uprights, I was standing right next to Tajh dad. He started crying his eyes out, I just gave him a big hug and told him thank you.

Then I looked around to see all the orange in the stands going nuts, it was a scene I'll never forget.

Walked out the GA dome just to get socked in the nose by a LSU fan. True story.

I bet he still has the red-@$$ over that night.

Those fans were leaving b/c they jsut knew the game was over. Uhhh, think again!!

That was one heck of a performance by Boyd. You could see it in his eyes, he was confident in himself and his teammates. I believe that game set the tone for what was to come for The Tigers. I'll never forget that game or the game Tajh played.

In his time, TB was an All American, set records, beat FSU, LSU, OH St, and many others. Best of all, he's a Clemson Graduate. He did pretty darn well. As far as the little roosters, Charlie Whitehurst (4-0) has that covered.

People put way too much emphasis on wins/losses vs. USCjr, presumably because they're the in-state rival. But they are not nationally relevant whatsoever. Let's keep our focus on the LSUs, OSUs, Oklahoma's, FSUs, etc. of the college football universe. As long as we're beating them more than they're beating us, we'll continue to be among the nation's elite.

I agree that Tajh's wins against OSU, LSU as well as wins over UGA, Auburn, and FSU were bigger than his losses.

Losing to USCjr wasn't fun for our fan-base, but it hardly mattered to anybody else.

Beating teams like OSU, FSU, LSU, etc is a BIG deal nationally. Nationally USCjr. is a "nobody", and outside of SC nobody cares how often we beat them.

Let's put it this way: Can you imagine a world where on a nationally televised game Brent Musburger rattles off our 5-10+ wins seasons in a row and shows the elite programs we've beaten (FSU,OSU,ND, etc...) where USCjr. is included?

Me neither.

You are a complete moron if you think the winningest QB in Clemson's...

Aug 24, 2016, 3:27 PM

history losses outweigh all the huge victories. The losses to the coots are irrelevant at this point, but the big wins Tajh got still matter big time. 20 years from now nobody outside of coot fans will remember their streak, but they will remember the huge wins Tajh got us, to elevate us to elite level. And getting out talked by a coot gets you nominated for moron of tge century

Your friend is a MORON but I'd like to point out some

Aug 24, 2016, 3:34 PM

wins not being mentioned...

Defending national champ Aubarn who at the time owned the longest winning streak in the NCAA, we beat them again the next year

2 wins vs a top 10 VT team including an ACC championship

I thought those needed to be highlighted in addition to OSU, LSU, FSU

Here's my take on Tajh

Aug 25, 2016, 7:21 AM

I love Tajh to death, he's done so many things for Clemson and will go down as one of the best Clemson QBs ever. I've met him and he's an all around great guy. His losses by no means out weigh his wins because he has had some big time wins over big time opponents. His main problem was that if he got popped one good time within the first 3-4 series he was rattled and done the rest of the game. I have many coot family members and friends(yes I still claim them, sometimes I wonder why though lol) and we've had this discussion and they agree with me. If Tajh wasn't hit he was lights out and you couldn't touch him. If he had an offensive line like what we have now I think he'd have won a lot more games and probably not lost all the games against the yardbirds because of the fact that he'd have the confidence that he couldn't be touched. But that's just my thoughts and take on Tajh. I always have been and always will be a huge supporter of his.

"All our joint fictions add up to reality"

Aug 25, 2016, 8:05 AM

Your first sentence spells it. Carolina Fan. He has his fiction, and we ours. So you are left with facts, which themselves need explaining, as the other posts show. A Carolina fan's reality always passes through the prism of their performance against us, and that's about as high as they ever go. Other posts are correct on this topic - big wins, elevation of program, etc.
