Super bowl ratings (v college)

|
Super bowl last night averaged 99.9m viewers on the traditional Fox broadcast. Including streaming and spanish-language audience the game averaged 102m viewers - up slightly from last year.
This year's super bowl still ranks as the second-least watched since 2009.
As a comparison, the Clemson-LSU national championship had 25.6m viewers among ESPN's Megacast. The 2006 rose bowl has been the highest rating for college FB since BCS era started at 35.6m viewers

Surprised that last night's game did not have a larger audience because it had all the makings of a classic and it certainly turned out that way. College is college and is a whole different animal than the NFL and always will be.

A playoff similar to what the NFL has that would include multiple teams outside the southeast would be great for college football. The only team relevant that falls in that category on a consistent basis is Ohio St. It needs USC, Oregon, Nebraska, all these traditional power houses from around the country that have a brand name to be relevant again and the quickest way to do that is by putting more teams in a playoff.

Bad teams shouldn’t be in a playoff just because of their name. Expanding the playoff to get those bad teams exposure is a bad idea. They want in the playoff? Get better.

This SB was the 10th most watched all time according to Colin Cowherd today.
"Super Bowl LIV lived up to the hype when the Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers 31-20 in a close game that came down to the final minutes. The game was so entertaining that it drew a massive audience. According to FOX, this game was the 10th most-watched Super Bowl in history." 2 hours ago

The real number for the Clemson-LSU game is over 60 million. I don't know a single person at Clemson that has cable TV.

IMHO every football fan, college, high school, grade school, overseas watches the Super Bowl... thats not the same as the Natty, there is alot of folks in the country who don't care one bit about college football. New York is a good example, they have he Jets, Giants and Bills but not a single descent college program.. Syracuse? small market.. College excels in the midwest and south...

A key to advertisers is the 18-49 year old market segment. It was the lowest in total viewers since they started, 38.6 million. That segment of viewers has been dropping for 9 straight years, from 52.48 million in 2011, 26.4% loss in viewership.
