only 50-75 feet from a fairly busy road. I noticed them on my right as I past then turned around, when back and stopped when I got to the sweet spot. They had just noticed me and started to trot off.

I've no doubt the folks who live there are baiting their yard so I'm going to stop and ask about the bait. I'd love to have a bunch of deer feeding in my back yard.

When we lived in a colder climate in western NC, MissTulsa would feed them corn during the coldest times. She started by leaving a coffee can sized (or two) little pile about 40 yards from the back of the house, each day moving it a little closer. Was the same group every day, which defended their corn. Soon the pile was just a few yards away, and we would sit and drink coffee with them, separated by a pane of glass. That gave miss the idea to take the corn out at the same time every day, rattling the coffee can. They would come stand about 10 yards away, waiting on her to leave. She would toss a few kernels to them, and over a period of a week or so she was able get them to come just outside arm's length. This was during the coldest days. She would stop feeding them in the early spring through the first snow, but they still came by daily while making their rounds. If Miss was out in the garden during the summer they would still walk within 20 feet as long as she didnt pay them much attention.

One winter day day she forgot to put out the corn and I looked up to see two of them looking in, noses against the glass, like "C'mon guys, get with it."
