Srs question for upstate folks

Aug 3, 2015, 8:44 AM

Do you go to Charleston much?

I see where TOTE! comes down here quite a bit. I mean I live about 7 miles from the Windjammer and haven't been there in two years...I'm juss wonderin' if I leave Ohio south, am I all of a sudden going to miss it?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You'll miss it when you can't take the boat out 9.5 months

Aug 3, 2015, 8:46 AM

of the year. When people are coming to visit, they have a specific goal in mind. That makes it much different than just being here and trying to go about your everyday life.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-aero.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Weather isn't much different here than it is in the upstate

Aug 3, 2015, 8:49 AM

is it? I don't remember it being that much warmer in November or March in the upstate than it was here.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-aero.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah, the lake is probably colder, longer.

Aug 3, 2015, 9:21 AM

I think water temp now is like 88 degrees in the harbor. I look at the weather up there a bit and normally there is <10 degree difference; normally around 5 degrees.

Looks like most of this week, its forecasted to be hotter in Clemson than here.

the big differences

Aug 3, 2015, 9:00 AM [ in reply to Weather isn't much different here than it is in the upstate ]

I grew up down that way and don't miss it a bit. Went to the beach every other weekend as a kid and now could care less if I ever see the ocean again.

1. Humidity. I cut grass yesterday afternoon (push mower) and didn't even break a sweat.
2. BUGS. Amazing the difference - from sand gnats to mosquitoes to cockroaches. Upstate has 1/100 the amount of bugs.
3. Tourists. Ugh. Nice not to hear those whiny nasal accents everywhere you go.
4. Traffic. 10 mile commute = 11 minutes.
5. Clean mountain air. That first heaven-sent crisp autumn-like morning is only a few short weeks away.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I gotta disagree about the humidity.

Aug 3, 2015, 9:09 AM

One of the hottest summers I ever spent in my life was in Clemson. At least we get a breeze off the ocean occasionally.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

weather is always a variable no matter where you go

Aug 3, 2015, 9:20 AM

taken on any given day or week, even month, maybe not. But on average throughout the year, there's quite a noticeable difference. Yeah we have a few "sauna" days, but comparatively speaking, they are numbered.

The bugs are the huge thing.....growing up down on the coast, they were a part of life and you just deal with them. Mosquitoes, gnats, horseflies, palmetto bugs, all kind of biting critters. At my home now, the biggest pests are grandaddy longleg spiders and a couple fire ant mounds, which if that's the biggest problem, I don't have a problem.

Aug 3, 2015, 9:19 AM

GVille has enough dining options and a cool downtown that I don't feel the need to visit Chas like I did when I lived in Fucklumbia.

I do go to Edisto a couple times a year because the fam has a place there and it's one of my favorite places.

I like Chas, and lived in Mt. P for 2 years or so, but the traffic and tourons make it less enjoyable for me now. The only time I like to go is during the colder months when it's less crowded. Last time I went was for SEWE in 2014.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This is about what I would think.

Aug 3, 2015, 9:23 AM

I've told my wife many times that we'd probably enjoy CHS as visitors a lot more than we do living here.
