Spurrier says he will NOT punish McEvoy; fine will be enough

Aug 4, 2012, 12:11 AM

Unfreakin' believable--and then he lets him practice Friday night. No, I'm really not surprised, but it makes me more proud of Dabo's decision. I have said on here repeatedly that Dabo should have announced Sammy's punishment immediately after the facts were in, and part of me still thinks that would have been best, but Dabo had the guts and the will to stick to his convictions, and now we all know why. I'm man enough to admit when I've misjudged someone's intentions, so apologies to Coach Swinney, and any and all that I may have offended with my criticism of his handling of this matter. It's so ironic, isn't it? Dabo sticks by his convictions, and Spurrier just sticks by his convicts!!

I do not agree with Spurrier's decision here, and am disappointed in it. McEvoy wasn't going to be more than 3rd-4th team at best, and some reports are coming out that he may even be moved to WR because he's struggling to develop as a QB (he played both in HS).

What harm would it do the team to suspend a player for 1-2 games - shoot, for 6-8 games - who wasn't going to appear in any games anyways? I know, it'd be almost meaningless, but there may be some game that would be a 40-point blow-out either way that he might've gotten a few mop-up snaps in, but wouldn't because he'd be suspended. It'd be SOME kind of punishment.

Not sure what the particulars are behind his arrest, but IMO it was more than just the typical traffic ticket for speeding (I don't think any players get punishment for getting speeding tickets). Even if technically he wasn't under the influence by legal definition and therefore wasn't involved in a DUI, it's still a law in NC, and he broke it....
