A losing record in the ACC will bump us OUT of NCAA tourney

When the ACC was a good basketball conference we could make the Big Dance with a losing record. But since the ACC has turned into a football conference (you can thank Dabo for that) a losing record would put us in NIT.

Yes...but if you lose enough games, it could become that....

There's no reason to give any grounds to the selection committee to drop our seeding, send us to the play-in game, or keep us home.
If we did have a losing conference record...that would mean that we would have dropped 5 of our last 7. And could potentially be a double digit seed in our own conference tournament.
Not sure that's NCAA tourney material...it would definitely put us in bubble mode.
There's no panic in the sense of "we need to win out"....but it'd be good to go at least 4-2 down the stretch to finish 11-9 in conference...21-10 overall...with our overall resumé, that's probably safe.

I'm thinking we go 3-3 or 4-2 down the stretch. It's not a gauntlet by any means but not showing up ready to play can easily mean we're walking with an L that night.
Avoid losses to ND and Ga Tech can at least minimize "bad" losses so to speak. Our strong OOC showing so that's paying dividends this year.
Nothing is guaranteed (March Madness and all) but as long as we don't flame out down this last stretch and go .500 or better and that may be enough to lock us in before the conference tourney even starts.

Considering where we are today a losing ACC record would put us at 19-12 overall prior to the ACCT, and likely 20-13 following. It would entail us going 2-4 the rest of the way from here in the regular. Regardless of ACC record, none of those scenarios are going to keep us in.

2-4 the rest of the way might make it a little bubbilicious but I think 3-3 probably assures our seat at the dance. It feels like right now we are playing for seeding.

I see 3-3 here as bubbilicious unfortunately. 2-4 would entail too many rough NET hits along the way considering who's left on our schedule. Worse than 3-3 and we will need 2 ACCT wins which Brad has never accomplished.

AP/Coaches Poll Rankings and Tournament are also officially “not criteria” but strangely have an extremly high correlation with who is selected. Poll rankings make sense but the correlation between historically successful programs making it in as questionable bubble teams suggests that the entirely subjective voting process just might suffer from human bias.

You are right about bias. As long as there isa selection committee it will be there.

overall record looks better this year. I'm hoping we finish strong and solidify our spot in the tournament. Don't forget, the ACCT can benefit us as well. Need to finish strong.

We will be better than that with our schedule or we don't deserve to be in.

Has any ACC team received an at-large bid with a losing conference record?

I don’t think Bradley likes the extended season. He did that once a long time ago, and decided it was not for him.
