Sports reporting bias

Feb 12, 2023, 10:15 AM

Scottie Scheffler was arguably golf’s best performer last year. He is currently leading the tournament by 2 strokes. Who is featured on the PGA tour website this morning? Jon Rahm! Nothing about Scottie. Also one stroke behind Rahm is Speith. A star in his own right.
Bias personified. Which is what we should expect from the media in general and we generally get it.

Class of ‘71. Went through “rat season” and glad I did.

I don't keep up with golf enough to know what their reason is. Is there something about Rahm that would make him favored and vice versa?

Well look at Tiger and his coverage. He could finish 12th and all the reporters would run by the winner to get Tigers thoughts on not winning. Nothing new here though Rahm is not on Tigers level. Plenty of players that can win now. Great competition even with the two tours.

They're just entertainers...
Really who cares if these overpaid athletes feel bias?

Websites are selling clicks.

Don’t blame them for giving readers what they want. Blame readers for not clicking on the other guys.

The only bias is what sells.

It started with Tiger Woods. They still grovel over him but not Jack, Arnie, or Gary.

They groveled over them plenty when they were selling the tour to advertisers. It's all about what the viewers want to see, and we can complain about the coverage Tiger gets, but many viewers are interested. All of us owe a lot to Tiger for giving the game of golf a huge boost when it needed it, so I can tolerate the over the top coverage.
