Spelling Gallman Too Early
Nov 21, 2016, 10:21 AM

|
Disclaimer: I love Clemson and this football team. I'm not an X's and O's guy at all, so feel free to slam this post as you see fit.
We can agree that the running game has been off this year. The reasons we've heard:
*Deshaun is running less. *The O-Line isn't playing up to expectations. *The opposing defense is loading the box.
But in the games where we do run the ball well, like last week, why OH WHY, do we take Gallman OUT of the game for a series or two when he is running at a 10 yds/carry clip. I understand we have to get guys reps, I do... but in a year where our running game has been so scrutinized by fans, analysts, and critics, why not let the running game and the O-Line build some momentum and allow this unit to truly truck over someone?
Also, to hell with #SCar

Guess I'm a coot then too cause I agree with him. When we have momentum going leave them in why break it up. We can give the younger guys meaningful snaps without breaking up momentum. And before anything is said Clemson class of 89. Worst part of going to a Clemson game is having to drive through that arm pit they call Columbia>

I appreciate the support, haha. Just trying to create a dialogue. Wayne is a guy you feed and the more reps and runs he gets, the stronger and meaner he becomes.

The cool thing here

Is that we don't have to impress anyone. We are in a position where winning is all that needs to happen.
And we managed that game Saturday night very well. We jumped out to a big lead, got some snaps for 2nd string, and won the game handily without any real concern.
We also didn't tire out Gallman or risk an injury.
I agree that we are looking for a running identity at times. I think they are getting more backs reps to try and give them some experience to help when we DO need to spell Gallman in big situations.
Other than Ray Ray at Punt Returner I can't really think of anything worth complaining about from Saturday night.

Your point is reasonably valid ... worthy of discussion.

In response, I'd say that our coaches DO tend to make the decision to run in subs (future stars ?) at points in the game when other coaches might be looking for ways to run up the score for the polls, or to pad stats for their Heisman hopefuls.
From one perspective, it can be argued that this practice sometimes has the negative effect of slowing down momentum and giving the other team a chance to get back in the game, while artificially making the game look more competitive.
But, on the flip side, many of those guys that are getting reps early in the game are the ones who will need to carry the load in the future.
I guess it's up to posters on discussion boards to have fun making their argument either way.

because we all know Gallman is gone, so it only helps these guys to get reps.
Thanks for the perspective and not calling me a "coot."

I Believe he came out to get his upper arm taped up. It looked like he got stepped on by someone's cleat and it was a pretty good gash and was bleeding pretty good. After CJ had a few caries Gallman came back in and had his upper arm wrapped up.
