might have had on Blake Hebert's decision to decommit and go to ND? And for that matter, since DJ and Beaux were HS teammates and good friends, don't you think it was likely Beaux suggested Blake reach out to DJ before making his decision?

South Bend is like 50 miles closer to where he's from than Clemson. I think ND probably just had a bigger bag for him.

I know it is idle speculation on my part and I am sure his high school teammates now at ND were in his ear pretty good as well, but I also don't think this was a spur of the moment decision and I believe he did some due diligence before making this decision.

Notre dame qb flipped to auburn. They were in need and surveyed a few options. From what I understand ,Hebert wasn't in their first tier, but they struck out.
They came after Hebert because he has two teammates committed there and played with a LB already there. Then They offered him about 5 times more than we offered... boom

I think you are spot on after just watching a YouTube clip from a ND blogger who basically said the same thing. Apparently, Blake only visited ND once during recruitment but things heated up a few weeks ago, once ND lost their QB commit to Auburn, and they were on a check-in visit with their 2 other recruits from Blake's HS when discussions really heated up.
It is interesting that they flipped an Iowa QB commit right before flipping Blake.

What kind of money are we offering players that Blake Hebert can make 5x that? I liked his film and thought he could be a good player if given time in a system, but if guys like him cost $100k+ to sign we will never have another elite QB again.

I was under the impression we didn’t pay anyone and just laid out what a player could make once they get here. I’m not sure if that has changed, I was just repeating what a buddy told me. But for a kid like him I think he just capitalized on ND being desperate and made some absurd bank that no one else would’ve paid him.

I’m honestly curious how the details of these things work. I would assume whoever is paying an athlete would want to wait until they’re actually on campus so that they don’t decommit and run with the money?

Are big supporters of the Irish. They used super advanced pulsing ultraviolet laser waves to hypnotize Herbert and changed his decision.

Is the Herbert kid Catholic? My guess is; "probably". THAT was probably a huge factor too.

...but who cares?
I'm not wasting time worrying about some high-schooler's de-commitment. To me, it just does not matter. The only ones I care about are the young bucks wearing orange.

It was definitely speculation on my part. My point was if I was thinking about leaving one school for another, and I had access to a former player of the school I was thinking about leaving, I would certainly be asking him questions about what it was like there, and also what his QB buddy might have gone through there as well.
It was just idle curiosity for me, and I wondered if anyone else had given it any thought. I didn't expect it to stir this much "passion"

Zero influence.
And if commentary from DJ and collins have any impact on Hebert, then Hebert is not the cerebral guy you want at QB and it’s great that he decommited.

Players and their parents generally don't enter these decisions lightly and do their own due diligence. I have no idea what all influences were in play, but certainly can speculate, and I am happy to hear what others think, whether they agree or disagree.
I will put you down as a "maybe"

You may have a point given the personal relationships you pointed out. Totally understandable if it happened that way. From the kid's perspective, being on the Notre Dame football team may offer a bit more prestige than being on the Clemson football team, especially in his part of the country. No telling how he would perform at either school, given the chance to play...
