Mechanics were cut as over 100 fire trucks sat idle while the fires raged.

Fire trucks + water in hydrants = rapid response elements
1
Jan 26, 2025, 5:34 PM
[ in reply to There is no water infrastructure system in the world that could ] |

A large part of the purpose for having a fire fighting infrastructure is to extinguish smallish fires before they spread and become huge blaze.
State of CA and city of LA, via their neglect, misguided environmental policies, & messed up budget priorities, impaired LA and surrounding areas from having a better chance at extinguishing the fires before they spread so catastrophically.
You’re a loyal soldier for Team Doofuscrat.
I’m looking forward to you starting a ‘walls don’t work’ thread sometime soon.

Your first sentence is the part they can’t seem to understand. Of course hydrants can’t fight the fire once a gazillion acres are on fire.

There is more to the story. Maybe the trucks were getting retrofitted and those weren't available? Were they all not running. The last thing they would worry about would be emissions at the moment the fires were blazing.

It's been widely reported that when other states sent fire trucks to support CA they were immediately detained until they could be tested for proper emissions standards and if they did not pass they were rejected. Just a little taste of the left wing cult and it's worship of the process over results. Yet they stand there with a straight face and tell the POTUS they've eliminated all the red tape going forward? Yeah right.

They do have a shortage of mechanics, and budget cuts. But from what I can see, their 2019 budget was $674 million and their 2023 budget was $837 million, with the budget cut for this year making the budget $819 million.

NC Tiger gave Diddycrats an excuse to cover for terrible CA & LA govts
1
Jan 26, 2025, 6:02 PM
[ in reply to That's blatantly false.*** ] |
|
Classic example here of how the Diddycrats find a mole hill of an excuse to attack a critic of a leftist shrine (LA and State of CA) and divert attention away from their side’s mountain of incompetence.
The Oregon fire trucks were delayed, but not for emissions check purposes. They were delayed to inspect other aspects of the firetrucks’ condition.
Yay say the Diddycrats.
Look how much of this thread became sidetracked by the OR firetrucks controversy.
The OR firetrucks were far too late to have made much difference in the totality of the fire damage.
The real story is that CA and LA governments knew that their fast response firefighting infrastructure was inadequate. Maybe, maybe not, would the availability of a properly set up firefighting infrastructure have caught the initial fires before they spread and became uncontrollable. Undoubtedly, the conscious decision by State if CA to prioritize other matters (including State of CA’s ~$50M allocation to ‘fight Trump’s objectives’) and by LA to reduce funding for firefighting handicapped their fast response capabilities.
You don’t give losers an excuse for losing if they didn’t do their best to prepare to win.

That's what the frigg'n OP was about man. Seriously, what are you talking about?
To your broader point (as misplaced as it may be in this thread)...it's BS crap like this OP that pulls attention away from how mismanaged CA is, not the other way around.
When a state is so eff'd up, there isn't a need to make up stupid stuff to pile on...the truth is bad enough!

History of the App South, circa 1999. 600 level history course in Hardin Hall.
1
Jan 26, 2025, 12:22 PM
|
|
Paper topic was the Scopes Monkey Trial. We all turned in papers. Over half the class were masters students, the rest undergrads.
Lemme backup two years. In POSC I had a professor, still there, Bruce Ransom. Accused me of plagiarism on a paper because I incorporated "ideas" from class discussions, notes, and ultimately books read in a history course the prior year, without proper citation. Told him I still had notes of discussions about the books we read, but I didn't even remember the books or passages. Would have taken me longer to find the sources for that paper than to do the other research. He lit me up, but let it slide. I cited my class notes, the course, the professor, and the books we read, and that was acceptable. From that day until I graduated I cited every freaking thing under the sun that could possibly be questioned, in every paper, for every class, and learned to do it the right way. He was dead serious, as was my response, which was acceptable. Put the Fear of God in me.
Back to the App South history class. She was handing out the Monkey Trial papers. As usual, thanks to Dr. Ransom, I cited the crap out of everything imaginable. Professor was an older lady from somewhere local-ish. Can't remember her name. App South was her specialty. She silently went around the room dropping papers on desks. Mine was way better than expected, and I was shocked. I expected a C, maybe a B tops. Something was off here.
She walks up to the front, and lets out an audible sigh, clearly unhappy about something. She then scolded the class, reminding us this was a MASTERS level course, at a UNIVERSITY. Everyone nods. She then said at this level EVERYONE should know, and properly cite everything they turn in. Few eyes got big. She then ticked me off by letting everyone know there was only ONE student, in the entire 600-level class (about 17 people), who did that, then the finger point. She then ranted about how most people cited NOTHING. The few who did, did it improperly, or insufficiently, or both. What happened next is the reason for this tldnr post.
She said something to the effect she fears for the future of our country, if this type of apathy to sourcing and citing sources continues. She lamented that it took my paper to REMIND HER, even, how bad this problem had gotten in colleges. She then said when you go out into the real world, not knowing to do this, and not thinking it is important, people WILL BE MISINFORMED, and MISLEAD. What if people write newspaper articles without sourcing anything? Will you just accept what they write? The nightly news, what if they didn't source anything and just "told" you the news? She genuinely felt, and specifically said, this can destroy a society or our country if it continues. And this type of stuff has destroyed societies and countries in the past.
May paper wasn't that good, I thought. I have no clue what everyone else made. She may have flunked every paper, as unhappy as she seemed. But she made a point, but it's the bigger, and final point she made to the class that sticks with me on this message board, right now. And KUDOS to Dr. Ransom!!!! Irony, it's a POLITICAL SCIENCE professor who made the strongest point to me about sourcing and citing material properly, and how IMPORTANT that is. To this day I still see many scientific and academic papers that use proper citations. But, I've also seen them, that use proper citations to MIS-CITE sources. Yeah, check the perfect citation and the source does NOT say what the paper says the source says - (RFKjr, please stand up).
1984 and all the "Orwellian" stuff never really interested me, as I grew up in a different world (pre-internet). But it was a book conceived in 1943, published in 1949, and even though 1984 has blown past, here in 2025 we're closer to it than ever in my lifetime, HERE. And the only way you fix this, today, is to hold the internet, and internet providers/entities to the same standards newspapers, magazines, and television were held to in the past. If Tom Brokaw got on TV and said fire trucks from Oregon had been turned back due to their noncompliance on emissions, and no official public correction and admission of the mistake occurred, there would have been a lawsuit. Many probably. There is no punishment for misinformation today. Not to the troll who posts it online, nor the online entity that hosts it to to give them an audience, nor to the fiber networks and ISP's who transfer the lies. It's just......sad. There's just too much money to be made peddling lies. SAD.

Here's the TL/DR version:
Jan 26, 2025, 3:18 PM
|
|
In a history class, my properly cited paper stood out, thanks to a lesson from Dr. Bruce Ransom years earlier when he taught me the importance of meticulous sourcing.
The professor warned the class that poor citation fuels misinformation and erodes trust, a problem even more urgent today as unchecked lies spread online. Accurate sourcing isn’t just academic—it’s essential for truth and accountability.
