I'm Pretty Sure Dabo's Headphone were working

He says he wished the coaches would have stuck with the run...
Here's a novel thought:
Dabo: "Tony, I want 75 percent of the offensive calls running plays until I tell you otherwise"
Tony: "Ok Coach"

And this board would be filled with complaining about why you are trying to run it against UGA when you have DJ and so may weapons at WR.

When we had 1st and Goal at the 5 yard line, I thought for certain we'd see a designed QB run. But, for some inexplicable reason, we threw the ball 3 times and settled for a FG. Redo that one set of downs and the game is a lot different.

I remember a game from last year where Dabo scripted the first 4-5 plays all of which were razzle dazzle half back passes, etc. ETN was uncomfortable with passing but Dabo insisted that he learn those plays. It broke our tendencies and we won the game. We played too conservatively Sat. We played scared. We've got to break the mold and get the other team on their heels right from the start.

The run game ? Our backs barely got to the line of scrimmage and Georgia was up in the box the whole game . They made us 1 dimensional and then pressured our QB . D.J. had no outlet when blitzed . We never stretched the field with long passes so Georgia just stayed in their pressure defense. I don't think there was a pass downfield for more than 30 yards . You have to make them cover more of the field but with our pass protection probably wouldn't have worked . We got out muscled on the line on offense just like the last 2 CFP games . This time the defense at least kept us in the game.

1- Dixon needs to grow up...because his elusive ability could have helped early. The off the field issues got to go dude.
2- Dabo could have told DJU...""" When you see 12 yards of clear green in front of you....YOU GO RUN TO IT...and get down when they come. ""

The O-line just was not ready. Guys were trying but simply were not good enough. They looked like boys getting roughed up by men.
DJ was trying his best but the moment was too much for him. It wasn't until midway in the 3rd quarter when he sort of figured things out and started having a little success.
He's got to develop a feel for the pocket, which cannot be taught. He also forgot where they were on the field when he took two sacks that moved them out of FG range.

Agreed. DJ should have figured out early that he may have to slide and throw the ball away.
By the way, he did not seem one but elusive in the pocket which means he is going to need to learn to throw the ball away.

over 4 quarters of football is a C- what would an A constitute? 20 yes, 50yds?
That was a complete schitshow on offense. Give credit to GA, their defense was as stout as ours.
Just strange we can recruit blue chips across the board with the exception of offensive lineman. It rears its teeth when we play elite teams

They were legit. I'd give them an A. On the other hand, we're supposedly second only to Bama in college football lore, correct?
We muster 6 feet of rushing in 60 minutes spread over 5 or 6 different rushers. That's pathetic, especially considering we have a 6'5 253lb QB that no DB wants to tackle.

Seven months prep and that was our offensive plan? And it seemed like we never made any adjustments. But, regardless of prep and plan, that OL had ZERO chance against that Uga front, ZERO. Until Clemson has more Jimmy’s and Joe’s on the OL, quality D lines will continue to dominate.

Why is the "teacher" grading his own test? I AGREE the D gets an A...but the O gets an F. 3 points...that's all you've got for a year of training under Trevor and with the O line and the QB coach? Utter fail. I hope someone important is reading these comments. You want a good coach, hire my husband.

When Morris left we got better
It’s past time to get better again.
I watched front row 3 balls thrown out of bounds with 1st and goal at 5. Wouldn’t have mattered if they were caught, they were thrown out of bounds.
8 months to game plan. And now the coach says should of, could of.

He didn't really go into lousy game-planning & play-calling.
Sep 5, 2021, 9:00 PM

Unfortunately, it's not clear to me that he grasps that he and his staff (especially Elliott & Caldwell) did a C-minus job (at best) with preparation, game-planning, lack of adjustments, and play-calling. He touched on it tangentially but then blamed it on rhythm, field position, etc.
I would have loved to hear him say that he and his coaching staff completely blew it on game-planning, adjustments, and play-calling.
We heard all through camp that they had to take Bresee & Davis off the field because the offense couldn't get anything done with them on the field. Yet they failed to game-plan for UGA's similarly talented front-7 to take the field. They should have left Bresee & Davis on the field and figured out how to scheme solutions.
We out-talent the heck out of teams like Syracuse, but they're puny OL and offense has managed to average 19.2 points per game against us over the last 4 years.
Elliott is "C" grade offensive mind. Imagine what an "A" grade offensive mind could do with Clemson's talent. I dare say, more than 3 points.

A+ (especially missing Turner and Davis) but that offense. Good grief. F. Tony Elliot was awful. DJ was awful. Honestly RB and WR were ehh to okayish (again a few standouts I’m looking at you Nagata) and that offensive live was atrocious/horrible/and just plain terrible.

"C-minus" offensive effort?!? …Hello, that grade is an “F”
Sep 5, 2021, 10:02 PM

Way overmatched on the OLine, neither RB was a threat to do anything, & the scheme was pathetic. When you can’t handle pressure, the offense needs to adjust w/ quick slants and screens - neither was even attempted more than a couple plays. I could not believe Elliott in particular (and the entire offense) was that bad Saturday night. You have a struggling QB and there were no sensible adjustments.

I know, I wasn't there, I'm not on the staff ,or the team, and I wasn't in the trenches but if this was a C-minus effort , well I got some ocean front property in Athens Georgia for sale. Granted ,neither team played well offensively, but the dawgs defense definitely had the upper hand over out offense Just my take, but we looked as bad last night as in the loss to LSU and OSU. We might get away with that kind of futility against a S.C. State or even UCONN but not against any team in the top 10. I grade this a "D".

The unspoken part of all of this: The offensive line’s ineptitude is the reason the team could not run. It was the reason DJ was sacked seven times and pressured all night. The middle of the OL was simply destroyed by Georgia all night long. Will Putnam whiffed on at least three blocks which resulted in sacks, and DJ simply had no time to develop any plays. The poor recruitment of offensive linemen is not a problem which will go away soon. It was masked by generational talent at QB and RB last year, but those guys are gone now. And while we will likely win all of the remaining games on our schedule, we won’t be able to truly compete at the level of an Alabama, Ohio State or Georgia, who have all recruited linemen at a ridiculous level. We are fine on the DL, but OL is a completely different matter.

Glad you brought that up. Last August, Dabo came out and praised our oline. Said we had skill but lacked depth and experience. We returned 4 starters this year. I understand oline is harder to recruit and assess than any other positions in high school. That said, we have rs sophomores and a graduate that were rated pretty good. Like #6 Guard in nation etc. To me, it just seems like we get decent talent but they just don't progress.
As good as Carmen is, he didn't seem to get any better from his freshman campaign. Really think a good hard look at roster management is needed. Perhaps we need to oversign, bring in full class each year, or use the portal. Not saying those are the answer, just saying something needs to change.
But knowing up front b4 game that it was a monumental task to win mano to mano, it's on coaches to scheme around it.

Let me help:
Killing the run. Tony did the same dumb call when we got beat down by LSU. He’s obviously NOT good at play calling.
This is MAJORLY on the oline and Caldwell. Our oline has been inferior for YEARS, we don’t pull great linemen (instead we watch Bockhorst make an @ss of himself every week) and in response, we have a ton of skill players without anyone to block for them.
As far as Swinney goes, Clemsons offense has had their *** handed to them in 4 out of the last 5 “big” games they’ve played in……perhaps it’s time to REALLY start homing in on what - or WHO the problem is.
