Something we've added in the last few weeks that has been really effective

is the delayed handoff. I heard an announcer call it the slow mesh either Saturday or a week prior. It's not truly a mesh (RPO) at least not the way Wake draws it up. RGIII called it the RB draw.

It's been way more effective than the RPO which Cade does not seem to run very well without he or the RB fumbling. The delay keeps the defense on its heels and gives us something we've been missing.

Saturday we ran it three times with these results (if we ran it more, it did not show up in the condensed game):
Mafah, 6 yd gain resulting in a third and short
Ship, 20-25 yds and a first down
Ship, 33 yds for a tuddy

The threat of it also kept eyes on the RB, giving Cade a little extra time to throw. He looked about as good as he did in his first meeting with UNC.

This, along with crossing receivers and tight ends, is why we are far ahead of last year's offense, even though our point production is down almost three points per game. But hey, you can't really blame the WHOLE offense for that: try being 9-of-18 on field goals in 2023 vs being 20-for-26 on field goals in 2022. That kind of makes a difference in the point total, an extra field goal per game.

New dumb clock rules have as much to do with

Points being lower than last year. You have 1-2 feet offensive possessions in most games due to the new dumb clock rules.

Good point. So based on points per possession, we are actually doing better.

If we ignore that and just look at the field goal kicking--we make 75% of our field goals and we have nine more points this year just on the ones we've attempted. Also, if we were making 75% of them, we'd try more than we're currently trying and most definitely would equal if not exceed last year's ppg.

CK also went under center several times rather than being in the shotgun.

They did mix in a little RPO as well.

Nice to see them mixing it up but I'm not sure the RPO is fixed.
