25 years ago Verizon coverage sucked but it was still the best wireless service.

Your phone would ring but the tower wouldn't pick up the answer signal unless you were in the right area. Roaming cost a fortune and your bill was calculate by the minute. I think my first wireless bill was $.18/min.
The city of Greenville paid my bill just to keep up with me when I remodeled the main st building after taking out the asbestos. The flip phone was 195 bucks which was down in price about $800 from the previous cost.
