The length of it is what is so short sighted. They wanted to keep what they had well mission accomplished. Inflation alone was going to make the money involved insufficient.

This is what happens when you get educational administrators trying to play big business. For Clemson, I think Clements and the BOT really dropped the ball here. Their feet need to held to the fire a little just like large shareholders questioning a CEO. It will never happen because who has the audacity to question the all powerful Clements 😉?

I don’t think he was here when the GOR was signed. He came the year after.

I was hoping FSU...I know they are good at producing clowns. Let's hope that UF isn't the lawyer/judge machine in FL.

Especially Virginia, but why did they allow their schools to sign such a horrible deal? But then again, the schools you listed are being helped by the GoR. The ones being hurt are Clemson, FSU and Miami... maybe UNC.

if a court allows them to break teh agreement . .watch out, right? Then no team will have to honor the agreement they have, anywhere in teh country. This would be the worst thing to happen.

The reality is the GOR has worked perfectly and the contract is fair to both sides.
The GOR was created to provide stability and keep the ACC intact. At the time of creation, the biggest concerned was poaching. The contract was competitive so the schools wanted to keep the conference intact as the overriding concern.
The contract is is fair to the ACC as it provides the 3rd best payout based on the 3rd most tv viewers. ESPN is actually paying more than they would if the contract was up for renegotiation this year based on what the PAC 10 B12 were offered. It’s not the fault that Miami, VT and to a lesser extent FSU has underperformed since the contract was signed. It is also not ESPNs fault that many of the lesser schoools simply do not invest in their football programs to be competitive (see Syracuse’s bowl game as an example).
The real problem is how the revenue is distributed within the ACC. Football is driving the bus and two schools have led the way in viewship and investment. FSU and Clemson are being underpaid, Miami and UNC are at fair value but the rest of the teams are being overpaid. Revenue distribution is not the fault of the GOR or contract, it’s an internal decision decided by the schools.

Not sure why you think we are the third. Here are the payouts for last year. Also with new additions and contracts they think the BIG 12 will make over 50 million per school. With the SEC and BIG 10 making 80-100 Million. We are 20% behind the Big 12, 50% behind the SEC, and 60% behind the BIG10. Also each conference has a renegotiation period coming up within a few years where they have the potential to outpace us even more. There will be a wider gap in revenue between the ACC and SEC than there is between the ACC and your local high school.
Big Ten: $58.8 million. SEC: $49.9 million. Big 12: $42-$44.9 million. ACC: $37.9-$41.3 million. Pac-12: $37 million.

Many think FSU doesn’t have a chance with their challenge. Didn’t they file their suit in a Tallahassee court? There could be rulings as well many challenges to these rulings. One or two sympathetic FL judges could turn the tide (no Bama pun intended). Give them credit, they did something rather that whine in place.

I believe that has been the strategy of FSU and Clemson all along. Let FSU take the lead and have the lawsuit filed in Tallahassee. Florida judicial and political climate is easier road is a favorable “get out of the ACC” path than filing in Columbia would have been for us. My guess is the Federal Appeals court for Florida cases is more favorable as well. I have no knowledge to back this up, but I assume FSU and Clemson leadership have been working together for quite some time on this.

heard this. Apparently the ACC filed a preemptive strike against FSU in Charlotte on Sat night.
Deciding if this is heard in Florida or NC will take a year. This will drag out for 2-3 years I bet.
