so we started paying people $300 a month for every kid they

Jul 14, 2021, 5:13 PM

have. Seems like a great idea. That's enough for a lot of people to go ahead and just quit work and stay at home. 4 kids 1200/month. 300/week is better than a low wage job for sure!

Maybe we can get those old rich boomers with no kids to pay their fair share of taxes.

This stimulus stuff is great! We need more free cash!

What could possibly go wrong...

It's tax credit they get every year.

Jul 14, 2021, 5:14 PM

It’s way more fun to pretend this is some new socialism/welfare/handout in the constant us vs them war. I 100% guarantee every single poster on this board with kids has used or still uses this credit.

money, but got $333 deposited yesterday. Complete phase out is $400,000 vs the $160,000 for the stimulus checks.

The CTC just normally helps offset what I owe (I always strive to break even with witholdings, but bonuses for me and commissions for husband can fluctuate wildly).

Great. Now people can really see what a sham it is to get a credit for having children. "Hey, I popped out a few more burdens on society...and I get more money???" Wow!

Every married couple under $400,000 income can claim this credit, and up to $150,000 for the boost to the credit this year.

Dems force insurance companies to cover dependents until age 25, but they cut this credit off at 17….like 90% of 17 year olds in the country aren’t dependents and costing mom and dad just as much as a 16 year old. Also, free tuition for everyone but let’s stop this bonus money right when they would be going to college.

Oh yeah. My son is 17 so I’m biased and bitter. F this govt cheese.

in a vain attempt to escape any sense of guilt, people have to look down on the less fortunate, and in a way dehumanize them to make their suffering more acceptable. It is a self-defense mechanism that makes humans capable of all kinds of horrible things. There are also the garden variety sociopaths that just don't give a f'ck about anyone but themselves. But they tend not to make excuses or operate on any antigovernment ideology, they are just aholes.

Have you ever had somebody give you a list

Jul 16, 2021, 9:42 AM [ in reply to There are some people consider their gifts in life ]

of gifts that they want for their birthday, so that you have to pick one?

It really sucks the joy out of giving. I call it a Birthday Tax.

Now, wedding registries and whatnot are a little different. I see the usefulness in those. Since you're stocking your new house, it makes sense for you to dictate which China pattern you want, etc. I compare this to taxes gathered by the government to fund the military and interstate system. You wouldn't want individuals where their money went in these situations, or things could get weird. Everybody would want their money to go towards 90MPH Speed Limit signs and Stealth Bombers or whatever when it may not be what is needed most.

I'm not a very giving person, and that's my prerogative. I should do better. And IF/WHEN I do better, it will be my decision on my time.

People who take pride or think they are being virtuous because they pay a lot of taxes (or because they want OTHER people to pay a lot of taxes) are full of crap.
