Kirby’s quote in the post game press conference:
“I want to respect the wishes of the SEC office, but I will say that now you’ve set a precedence that if you throw a bunch of stuff on the field and endanger athletes, you have a chance to get your call reversed and that’s unfortunate…because to me that is dangerous. That’s not what we want. That’s not criticizing the officials. That’s what happened.”
Whether you believe the call was defensive holding, PI, or neither…they shouldn’t have changed it. No one has ever seen a call like that…PI, beer cans thrown all over the field…just kidding not PI.

Those refs messed up a call twice. First by calling PI when we could see it wasn't. Second by rewarding the hame fans/students' bad behaviour by reversing a non-reviewable PI call after watching it onscreen (allegedly) during the beer can cleanup! Maybe it will become a reviewable penalty after tonight's fiasco.

It had to be PI by definition...had the defensive player not moved over, extended his arms, stopped the GA. WR, he would never intercepted the ball, much less as cleanly as he did..his push allowed him to be in perfect position and the receiver not! SEC is lousy on PI anyway...in the SEC rape is merely foreplay!

We want guys to get to the NFL, which is one reason they come to UGA. Kirby gets them to reach that goal and get them to the league. Many return to get their degree after their NFL days.

Well…….when you’re sitting in a race car and you’re drunk, beer cans can’t hit you…..and you don’t care anyway.

Unless you’re sitting in your race car and you’re drunk and you’re drunk friends are also in the car and they’re throwing beer cans at you. Then you can be hit…..but you still don’t care.

100% agree with this. What happened tonight was unacceptable. I've been saying all season there is an epidemic of reprehensible refereeing right now in cfb that needs to be called out more by the coaches and media. Nothing will change until that starts happening more.

Lol, Kirby talking about the refs being dangerous

Never mind all the reckless driving, DUIs, DVs, coach shoving an opponent's player and bashing said refs. If Texas gets a fine for the trash, UGA better get one too for the ref bashing, especially since he didn't get anything for the shoving. Apparently Kirby is Teflon.

This year more than any other, we have seen manybtimes where a ref throws a flag, then the refs huddle up and the announcement is “there is no foul for….” I have mentioned this to my wife several times this year as we watch games. The only difference in this case is that the fans threw a bunch of stuff while the huddle was happening. In the end, the right call was made.

I was already in bed and have no clue what you all speak of. Must have ended better than what I thought it would after watching that first half. Thought it was over.

Go back and watch it. The defensive pass interference call was egregiously bad, but that part is forgivable as human error.
Here’s the real problem and one that SEC officiating crew should be suspended for. They got together in a huddle immediately after the play is blown dead to discuss the flag. They made the ruling ( incorrectly in my opinion ) that it was a defensive pass interference. Then as the stadium erupted with tons of bottles and de debris being thrown all over the field, both coaches getting their teams away from the bench areas and kind of segregated as much as possible from the stands……. And Steve Sarkesian walking to one end of the field by himself to gesture to the home fans to knock it off….
All this took a lot of time. Time enough for those officials to watch the replay on the big screen over and over and figure out they had Darrell K. Royally screwed up. At which point they re-huddled and subsequently announced they were reversing their call.
But you can’t do that. That’s not in the rules. Pass interference is a non-reviewable call and wrong as I believe their initial ruling was, you cannot go back and change it.
It was a very bad look for that crew. They did something that is not allowed by rule and it looked like the home crowd influenced them to make up their own rules.

They are risking the perception that the fans throwing stuff influenced the decision. That is the only problem with this. The play was not reviewed. It is not reviewable. The refs discussed it and made the change. In the end, they made the right call.
