Heels blame Clemson loss on Duke

Every team likes to think they control their own destiny, even after a loss. Of course Heels think they should have won if they had just played harder. No team can perform at top level every game. Last night the deck was stacked against Clemson. Chapel Hill negative karma, the crowd, two devastating last minute losses, a 3 day turn around after 1 point loss to UVA, NCAA qualifying pressure and negative tweets by unreasonable fans. Heels had to overcome a 9 point win against Duke. What a mountain to climb!! Heels had strong games from Bacot, Davis, and Ingram, just wasn't enough. I do appreciate your comments that Clemson played harder and hungrier, but disagree with "North Carolina lost this game as much as Clemson won it." Clemson overcame all that adversity and controlled the outcome of the game. To say the Heels lost it because they couldn't get over a win against Duke really cheapens what Clemson accomplished considering what both teams were dealing with going into this game.

I disagree. We were in a good spot to pull off the upset. This Definitely was a trap game for unc and the coach and fans have every right to be upset at their teams lack of focus and maturity.
Unc beats us 80% of the time. If you know anything about basketball, then you know what an emotional game unc/dook is. You may not have heard their coach when he had to cancel practice Monday because it was going so lousy. Same with the lack of focus on guys showing up late for pre-game. So I agree, unc lost the game in the first 10 minutes.
But the biggest reason they lost was because (tremble- spelling ) was unable to play because of injury. He's their best defender and probably the only guy on their team that can guard jg3.

That is such a silly point on tremble. He is not a starter. Girard already had 5 points before he would have entered the game. Girard had plenty of open shots vs unc and he missed them. Did yiu see the high level, contested shots he made a few days ago?
Quit trying to make excuses. Under that logic, we would have beat unc if we had Hemenway and jack clark at home.

Jack Clark is really important to our team. Not having him for an extended period of time hurt us.

No doubt jack clark and hemenway would've helped the entire season if they had been available.
I didnt hear anyone on here sauing the whole reason we lost was because they were out. There were a lot of reasons why we lost that were mostly self inflicted. Like missing wide open 3 pointers.

I haven’t watched enough NC basketball this year to have a feel for how much not having tremble hurt them. But you are correct that NC would beat us at least 80% of the time. This is what is so great about sports. The best team doesn’t always win. Sometimes the better team has a bad day and/or the other team has a great day. Most team have a chance in almost every game. This same thing bit us a couple of times during football season this year. It’s a lot of fun when you win but really stinks when you lose, especially when you lose to a team that everyone is expecting you to beat.

UNC should have won that game at home. No excuses other than Clemson played better. That's my opinion.

I will take the W and be thrilled with it, no matter how we got it. Huge win in Chapel Hill. Surprised they didn’t have a fix in to foul out most of the team to offset that lack of focus.

I heard that three of the UNC starters were sluggish because they overslept. That is a new one for me.

If we're gonna blame the Clemson-UNC outcome on Duke,

Then it should be because Clemson was robbed of a victory in Durham, which would have strongly motivated our team not to repeat themselves in Chapel Hill. And *not* because UNC was beaten by Duke earlier in the week.

I’m so glad they are the ones who have to come up with excuses to soften the blow. Let’s hope they stay unfocused at our next meeting in the tournament finals.
