So is this defense officially a problem?

Really poor effort against a bad South Carolina team. Feels great to be 12-0, but that game wasn't satisfying at all.

I think it is. The defense giving up chunk plays and not holding on to the ball is a problem.
I am not sure if it is missed assignments, bad play calling on D and being too aggressive, or what. Whatever it is, the D is getting gashed.

This defense has given up chunk plays all season ...

that's not a new issue. The linebackers, mainly Boulware, has been out of position on lots of plays. But what is new is the number of chunk yardage gains surrendered today. Is it the style of defense that allows for these plays? Someone earlier on here suggested the D is too aggressive, blitzing way too much.

as well as the four players from Syracuse who totaled on just four plays 150-plus yards of Cuse's 250 yards rushing. I'm sure that RB from BC had a decent run somewhere during that game, and NC State put up some points against us, so I'm not counting that game out either. It's not on the defense but don't forget the 100 yard kick off return for TD we surrendered vs. Louisville.

only time defense has had problems is against two teams that ran gimmick offenses...

UNC doesn't run a gimmick offense. Been a top 5 defense all year. 12-0, defense hasn't cost a game yet, and played a key role in most of the wins.

The defense is, quite simply, tired.

Expect a shootout next week. I'll take Watson over Williams all day, though.
Then we get some much needed rest for the playoff, when you will see a completely different Clemson defense.

of film and statistics on tendencies. Also looks like some players are playing hurt.
Coaches will talk about blown assignments but need to "change" a few things. We do not look fast or confident.

I am so stoked about this season, it's not even funny. I haven't had my favorite team 12-0 since I was a teenager

Not completely. Offense had too many fumbles today. Ball control is becoming a bigger issue, imo.

Nah Gallmans fumble was on him alone. He didnt cover the ball up when he was in traffic, Watson fumbled the handoff. It was a read option and it looks like either Gallman didnt take it our Watson took it and Gallman thought he had it. Scotts fumble was just him being reckless with the ball.
