his supposed genius and scheming expertise never involved any in-game adjustment experience, not to mention input/discussion of basic live in-game play calling? I'm not ready to replace him, and Dabo knew all this when he asked Goodwin to stay and be D coordinator when Coach V got a head coach job. Presumably Dabo felt good about surviving Goodwin's on-the-job training. And presumably he felt confident the rest of the D staff would be OK with being passed up by a guy with no on-field experience. You know, those guys that might be concerned with their resumes getting dinged if our D is not up to snuff under Goodwin's direction. I'm guessing Mike Reed, who Dabo mentioned by name post-game, might feel like his input should be more appreciated.

Love. Love is going to keep this D together. And heart. Ol’ Corky gotta lot of heart for thinking he’s ready to fill Venables shoes. And effort. It takes a lot of effort to pass yourself off as a capable replacement when you’ve never been out of the booth.

With these things, anyone can succeed. Look at the Swinney boys. 6 years running, a Swinney son has been the placeholder for the Clemson Tiger football team. And we’ve had a pretty decent kicking game. Because of love, heart, and effort.

Mike Reed's love for Goodwin is going to be reduced if Goodwin continues to leave his guys in a bad spot. I imagine it was Dabo that called for the change in up-back from Swinney to Williams because Special Teams coordinator, the same Mike Reed, was busy coaching up his toasted corners. Maybe Reed had the idea and passed it on to Dabo, who knows.

I've got faith in Dabo's decision. And I expect Goodwin will do better vs NCSt, all part of Dabo's plan. Us fans have seen only the worst of Goodwin's work so far, but we're 4-0.
