So, how many NC trophies does Clemson have overall vs SC?
Apr 4, 2013, 4:58 PM
|
|
Let's see...we have 1 in FB, 1 in rowing, 2 in soccer, ? in track, 1 in golf and guess that's about it..for maybe 5 total.
SC has 2 in baseball and really not sure about any others they've earned...but I do admire their having a Heisman Trophy winner which is something I truly hope the Tigers get sooner than later (maybe Tajh).
Not really trying to be funny or rude..but just wondering after I heard Bama had 20 NC's.
What say you?!

The women's varsity four is only one of many races that determines the overall national champion. Teams have multiple boats (novice 1 and 2 boats, varsity 1 and 2 boats, 8 person boats, etc.). Clemson won an individual title in one race but not the overall national championship.

And let's not forget that their (SC) biggest claim to fame in football is an award that is named after a former CLEMSON football coach.

Well it is a team sport that doesn't include horse power. Not unless we won those using a boat motor. But that would be some thing the sec would do. Cheat by using a motor in a rowing contest

What you have to realize is that a lot of schools crowned themselves champions back in the day. UCLA and Stanford claim that many, but I don't think that is completely accurate.
Take Pitt for example. They claim 9 national titles in football which is absurd. In 1918 they went 4-1 and claimed they had won the national championship. The only legitimate one would be 1976 with Johnny Majors 12-0 team.

That might be true for sports like football, but UCLA and Stanford almost all of their championships are real championships. The kicker is that many sports are only played in California, so they've dominated a few sports and amassed a huge amount of titles. Sports like men's volleyball and water polo. They are also really good in tennis and track and field. And you have to recognize that they are really good athletic departments. They were also some of the first schools to focus on women's athletics. So all these factors result in them absolutely dominating the national championship count.

Hunt sea national title and a national title in the same year? I don't think a sport can crown multiple champions and either be legitimate.
