I assume he did. A lot of top athletes got paid at a lot of universities. That is why I am hesitant to call out programs, because we did the same.
If you want to know how dirty UGA and We were in the 80s, look no further than Herschel Walker. Everyone who was around knows there was an open bidding war for him.

It really was crazy back then. I know people that were highly recruited in the 80s and early 90s that have some good stories.
Everybody was offering something. Everybody.

Unfortunately this is the landscape that NIL has created. It's not going away so either get with the program or get left behind. I believe Utah NIL is buying $60k trucks for their entire team. Since NIL is making pay for play legal this is what you get.

One big difference with NIL is how you use it. We seem to use our dollars to retain; others use their dollars to attract. We didn't choose this fight but now it is upon us.

Exactly! We and Alabama lost the Lagway kid to Florida because both Dabo and Saban told him the truth. If you come here and play there will be plenty of NIL money. Florida said the money was there regardless.

For whatever reason this post reminded me of a night we played Campbell University in Basketball when I was still on campus.
After attending the game, my buddy and I went over to eat on 123. While there, the Campbell BBall team came in and one of the coaches started passing out cash. Some got 5, some 10 and some got 20. The coach noticed we were watching and he looked right at us and said, "I am not violating the NCAA! its just meal money and we are allowed to give that. We don't make enough to hand out cash illegally. That's one reason we are down here playing you guys to try and make a little money for our program."
We wished him luck on the rest of the season and asked if he was going to buy our dinner too. Got us a laugh but no cash.

Georgia's days are numbered too. They can't compete with Texas and California teams in the NIL arena. It will be interesting to see how Michigan and Ohio State fare going forward being that they have enormous numbers of supporters, but they lack the wealth of the competition. I suspect the rust belt will not be able to compete either, but they will make it a game for longer.
