because "now isn't the time to talk about politics on a politics board"
How is Trump handling the crisis? From the beginning so we will say Jan through now.
On a scale of 1-10. 1 being completely incompetant, god awful. 10 being perfect.
I'll give him a swinging 3-5. 5 in actions put in place by his admin. 3 when he talks at the podium.

I am comparing him to other leaders in times of crisis.
Probably why we got different numbers.

Sweden? South Korea? Cuomo?
What is your benchmark? Is anyone doing a worse job than Trump in your opinion?

I think that was Trump's wake up call and he got to work trying to not be like them.

Now is not the time to talk politics on a political board is just trying to shut down opinions he doesn't agree with. Anyone. In fact, that's a bad habit of many people on this board. Just trying to silence opinions.
If you don't like what's on a political board during this time, why the hell are you even on here?

I give him a 5 too.

I've openly complained about
1. Not ending travel from Europe when he shut the door on China.
2. His lack of aggressiveness toward moving bureaucrats out of the way and using the Defense Production Act to manufacturer HCQ for medication and PPEs for the general public. I wanted a billion doses and a billion mask so when Americans return to work everyone could wear mask to protect each other.

Last two weeks a 7.5. Jan. 20 through March 20 a 2.5.

Last two weeks would be higher if the news conferences would be only 3X per week and no “Trump” medical advise.
Early on, the response tactics were slow, not comprehensive and largely ineffective. The medical and economic outcomes support that conclusion. To provide a passing grade for the initial pandemic response, one would have to say the outcomes and existing state of the country meet expectations. That’s a hard case to make.
Trump is three into the job. No “Obama this” or “deep state that “ are rational excuses.
Pubs should compare to how Reagan would have handled the pandemic. I would speculate that his leadership qualities would provide great contrast.

There really isn't much more he could have done. He put his ace Jared Kushner on it, so that was obviously great. Then he compared it to the common cold and basic flu constantly. He used the word hoax all of the time, even if the context was different. He made it out as if this was something all to get him. Then he rallied and finally understood the magnitude. Since then he has been fine. He has done a good job for about 3 weeks. I give him a 5 or 6.

I guess I have higher expectations of our leaders

I'd give him a 1 because he doesn't take his job seriously enough. He puts tv ratings and the cosmetics of re-election ahead of the more important issues that come up every day. It is his number one failing for me. I get the impression he is working this like another apprentice game show he is running.
The number one priority should be risk management. We spend billions of dollars collecting information from sources around the world to keep America safe from all of the threats out there in the world, and every day a three page summary is put on the President's desk. What goes in this brief is usually vetted for weeks beforehand. In this case, the military had eyes on Wuhan as early as late November, calling it a "cataclysmic event". This information was presented to him in the daily brief as a major threat in early January.
I wonder if he even glanced at it. His first decision to shut flights down from China was in late January. But only Chinese Nationals were stopped from traveling, so it was barely a token effort. They should have stopped everyone, only allowed Americans to come home and then put them in quarantine. Same thing for those that had traveled from Italy.
The fact that he recklessly lies every day to the American public, on things like availability of test kits, masks, etc. is also a major failing. I honestly can't believe ya'll seem to be so indifferent about it.
We had two months to prepare and it just feels to me like if people would have taken their jobs and the risk more seriously we would have been ready to handle it without all the drama currently unfolding.

I have to agree with you Profusious. It's not a popular perspective on this board, but I think it wise to examine the "Shut down China" claim that he constantly makes.
He didn't shut down China. Those flights too and from China lasted another month until the airlines themselves shut down the flights because of risk. American's and foreigners, other than Chinese, continued to fly to and from China.
Yet, Trump continues to claim "I shut down China". He didn't. Further, flights to Japan and Hong Kong are still flying.
As late as Feb. 11, according to Business Traveler:
"Air China offers temporary flights to San Francisco, Washington from Beijing via Los Angeles, New York. China’s national airline Air China has adjusted its US flights from February 11.
Previously, the airline flew daily on Beijing-Los Angeles and Beijing-New York JFK.
From February 11 to March 28, Air China will fly to San Francisco via Los Angeles, and Washington via New York JFK. The change is as a result of the coronavirus outbreak in mainland China."
Perhaps Air China didn't get the memo in January.
