Mafah is either hurt or isn’t giving it 100%. If the goal is to win the game Saturday night against smu to become ACC champions start #26 Haynes he’s got that burst and speed we need. Mafah should still play as RB 2. Give Haynes 15 or more carries depending on the game and Mafah 7-10 carries. Haynes gives us the best chance to win

He 1000% should get more touches...he has homerun speed and more shiftiness.

That said, in fairness to coaches, Haynes was injured earlier in the season and missed some critical rep opportunities.
On the flip side of the coin, Dabo is all about rewarding seniors even if it impacts team play and W/L record.
When Mafah ran 17 carries for 17 yards vs. Pitt, it was too evident that Clemson coaching was impacting team play. Those decisions affect recruiting in addition to wins & losses.
Haynes offers more speed and change of direction. He also offers some learning mistakes -- Haynes had a critical offsides Saturday, but Mafah's failure to recover Cade's trip/fumble was even more costly.

Mafah is a warrior. He's not mailing anything in. However, he's not 100%, maybe not even 75-80%. Haynes definitely needs the bulk of the carries for the team to be successful.
I don't know if Haynes has shown he is prone to fumble in practice or if he is poor at pass protection, but it's painfully obvious that Mafah is not the Mafah he was earlier in the season.

Haynes made a great, sustained block on one of Cade's runs up the sideline***

Mafah is banged up and I would never question his effort. He definitely would be better if he could take some plays off, but I guess the staff does not trust his back ups that much. Haynes came in and had a false start. Mafah’s shoulder has not been right for a good while.

There are logistical reasons to start Phil.

Phil knows when to release the ball on the read option and now that we have a QB who can read a defense that is vitally important and a major part of our game plan. Mafah has hands and is our top RB receiver.
He isn't fast but he can catch a ball in the flat and can turn a coverage sack into a gain. I can see why he was used so much.
Frankly, I would not have played him after he got hurt. He isn't fast until he reaches top speed and he isn't light on his feet, light enough to make a good juke nor fast enough to take advantage of it.
It's likely, had I been selecting the feature RB in this game that we would have been sacked twice as much and had several more turnovers. That's why I make less than $11 mil/yr.
