I'm old school and think a full suit and tie is appropriate interview attire. (#okBoomer)
I've had someone show up to an interview in khakis and a polo shirt. While that would have fit the company's normal dress code, it just ... well, it cost them a couple points in my book.

I bought a new coat and pants for an interview I had back in May

Didn't wear a tie, didn't get the job.
The hiring manager was a lesbian from somewhere up north. I never had a shot at that gig before I walked in the door. I could tell almost immediately when she heard my accent that she should have just told me to go home.

Dude showed up to the zoom interview in a sweatshirt, and he looked like he had just crawled out of bed about 20 min before he logged on.
My boss IM'd me in the middle of the first question and just said, "Hoodie?" I knew the guy was done after that.

My current supervisor made fun of me for a while for wearing a suit

mainly because I had worked there before, with him as a supervisor and he called me to rehire me and the interview was just a formality. Other than funerals, that is the only other time I have worn that suit.
Funerals and job interviews. Been a while since I have been to a wedding, maybe I wore it then too.
