The P4 champions and the highest ranked G5 ALL get automatic bids. No ifs, ands, or buts.
Out of these 5 teams, the 4 highest ranked get the byes.

Let’s say there was a scenario where both Boise St and Army finished ranked higher than either the B12 or ACC champ… then a Power 4 gets left out

The CFP Selection Committee ranks the top 25 teams at the end of the season. The 12 playoff participants consist of the five highest-ranked conference champions, plus the next seven highest-ranked teams. The four highest-ranked conference champions will be seeded one through four and receive a first-round bye.4

“The five highest-ranked conference champions and the next seven highest-ranked teams will earn a spot in the 12-team bracket. There is no limit to how many teams from one conference can qualify. The rules also don't guarantee spots for certain conferences. The champions of the Big 12, SEC, ACC and Big Ten will almost certainly routinely qualify, though, along with the highest-ranked champion from the Mountain West, American Athletic Conference, Sun Belt, Mid-American Conference or Conference USA.“

No, and there is a non-zero chance a 5th conference champion could finish ahead of us even if we win the ACC Title. But not very likely.

Apparently I am too and I started this post. What I thought I heard does not match what others posted here. I’m going with the what others are saying here.
And I’m not going to worry about it anymore. Just hopefully we can find a way to win next week.

The highest ranked 5 FBS champs get in. If two of them are G5 teams, then the lowest ranked P4 champ can inky get in as at large ream.

We may fall behind Arizona State in this week's rankings, but if we beat SMU, we should move back ahead of them, securing the 4th seed and a bye.

There is no minimum ranking requirement for the five highest-ranked conference champions. There could be a conference champion ranked No. 23, for example, that's the fifth highest-ranked league winner and earns a spot in the playoff -- at the expense of the committee's No. 12 team."

There are 9 conferences. American Athletic, ACC, Big 12, Big 10, Conf USA, Mid-American, Mountain West, SEC, and Sun Belt (I think Pac-12 doesn't count anymore, nor does the FBS Independents).
Of the 9 conference champions, the 5 highest ranked of those 9 get automatic bids. The highest 4 of them get first round byes.
