I never understood why Biden wanted to commemorate the 20th anniversary of 9/11 as the date of our total withdrawal from Afghanistan? I'm not sure on a good day, that was good symbolism and the image that we wanted to project around the world.
I do agree with getting out of Afghanistan, but the effort seems very slipshod. Trump was for getting out too. I suspect he would have unleashed a hellacious air campaign on the Taliban who are out in the open and not holed up in caves, but who knows?
I wonder what the US basically agreed to. It looks like we said we're outta here, please be nice Taliban and essentially we won't do anything to respond no matter what you do.
We will look bad in the eyes of the world and the bad guys will be emboldened elsewhere, but I'm really disgusted in the lack of fight in the Afghan military. It was never a place we needed to be in long term, but it is sad to see very little positive come out of our 20 year efforts.
If the Taliban are smart, they will lay low until we are out of Kabul. Should they launch a full scale attack on Kabul before we get our folks out, the US will respond forcefully and it will make Mogadishu look like child's play.
All we can do is support our troops and hope for the best.

And they know that, just as why everyone else from Eastern Europe to China are now posturing with Biden in the White House. They know he is a do nothing prop.

that you have no critical thinking skills, I think now would be a good time as any to just believe the opposite of everything you say. I am certain that we would all arrive at the correct conclusion, reliably, on every topic..

That is a tough one, Using Manac Logic, both can't be true, or they would cancel each other out. And we know that is not the case.

Sometimes the US is a fool for being the world’s policeman…

Sometimes not? Depends on which way the political breeze is blowing.
Regarding the US image throughout the world, I am guessing most countries view Uncle Sam as an erratic, drunk bully who fights sometimes, gets sentimental and cries, passes out and wakes up grumpy with a hangover.

level our former embassy with an air attack once we're all out of there.
Hoping everyone makes it out safe. Very happy to put Afghanistan in the rear view. Glad that Biden stuck to his guns on withdrawal. Talking about it, and doing it, are two wholly different beasts. Godspeed.

We should. It's our embassy, our soil...ours to do with as we wish.
We need to make that stick, and make sure they do not occupy it. No symbolic victories for them.
The Afghans want to lay down in front of the Taliban, that is their lookout, but they don't get our embassy. I like the idea.

The Taliban has begun entering Kabul without essentially any resistance from the Afghan "military." The Taliban leadership has stated they will not use force to take the city and will allow the US to evacuate our folks.
I wonder if money has been promised to the Taliban to allow us to leave peacefully? That would be strange if true, but money well spent as the Afghan military has been an utter joke and no American deserves to die getting out of this hell hole.
History repeats itself. The Russians learned their lesson after only eight years.
