Yes he did what he could with a terrible line. Did you not see me say we have a lot of work to do? I didn’t say we played well I said he got all he could out of an awful line. Some of yall hate to read

Luke will not be known, nor was he hired, for what he does with the OL at Clemson now. In about two recruiting cycles there will be no one on the OL that remotely looks like they do now. They will not only be bigger but will be much more athletic (for their sizes). These are the guys that he will “coach up”.

He only had less than month to prepare

Give him an offseason to prepare and I think he'll work wonders for our O-Line.

You obviously forgot what they looked like at Duke, Miami, NcSt and the Coot game. While they had their typical lapses in bowl, there were times they looked different and better especially in short yardage.

We gave up 8 sacks!!…should’ve been more but Cade was called for intentional grounding. Matt has a ton of work to do before we open with Georgia next season.

Some of those were on Cade. Some plays he had plenty of time and still had trouble pulling the trigger.

What do you consider plenty of time for a QB to make a play? I didn’t see Cade having time to set his feet before the defense was on him.

I believe those count as sacks.

season.
It appeared we went back to more counters and traps on the run plays and that kinda worked.
Our pass blocking was not good.

14 or so practices isn't enough time to make changes

Thomas Austin struggled in coaching Oline pulling schemes and techniques.

Luke and Riley will need to do some major overhauling and coaching up the talent.

14 practices is enough time for Matt Luke to get a feel for the hand he is dealt

and make subtle adjustments while working the changes that Clemson reportedly implemented after NC State loss, which was to greatly reduce plays that required pulling and complicated O-Line moves.

Considering Thomas Austin wasn't able to get the O-line developed and able to fully grasp Garrett Riley's offensive system over a 10-month period, it will take some time for Matt Luke to do so. I have lots of confidence in Luke from his time with Dave Cutcliffe, Hugh Freeze, and Kirby Smart.

I LOVE Matt and I think he may end up being the best hire Dabo has ever made (and that’s saying a lot because I will always have a huge man crush on Coach Venables!) but yesterday’s performance was aweful for the OL.

He’ll get us playing better! It’s going to take more than a few weeks and 14 practices. I wouldn’t expect magic though. He’s still working with a little bit less talent than alot of other teams. I really hope we can start recruiting better at that position. Matt Luke is ABSOLUTELY the man for the job!

Go Tigers!!

I think we have a very talented o line but either they fully do not grasp the blocking scheme or the technique they have been coached doesn’t allow them to perform. Either way I think coach Luke with have them on a whole different level next year.

8 sacks and 12 TFL was not what he was expecting for sure.

Some of those sacks were on Cade--he was holding the ball too long. He has a tendency to "lock on" to his primary and lose sight of everyone else on his checkdowns.

I saw a couple of things that give me hope.

1) Better use of hands. I saw guys doing MUCH better job of moving D Linemen with their hands.
2) Better footwork. A lot of people criticize the O Line for a lack of "athleticism"...but a lot of it is just poor fundamentals with footwork. I saw our right tackle play much better with his feet than he has all year
3) Better leverage. We were having success with the run game because our guys were playing with much better leverage (lower) than before. It really paid dividends in the 4th quarter---we were running at will.

Yes, there is much work to do. Coach Luke can't perform miracles with 12-14 practices under his belt.

The bottom line is I think we will see much better performances next season.
