Football Recruiting Update: Clemson offers first for 2018 LB

First, Clemson (and all schools who do this type of thing) are risking a scholarship when so much could change over the next three years. But more importantly, it takes away from the integrity of the game. I think only seniors should be offered scholarships to protect both the player and the university.

What?!? Who cares what you think. Most of our recruits commit when they are juniors. They see that Clemson has everything that they want and make a sound, intelligent decision. If Dabo wants to offer talented freshman, then he should be allowed to offer.

Being an avid Shelby fan, very pleased that Dax has offer from the Tigers. Dax is the real deal on the field, and a great kid. His father is head basketball coach at Shelby, and played football at Wake.

Nothing wrong with showing interest in a prospect. Coaches coach players. All players were prospects at some point in time. Funny how that works. College is a major stepping stone in life. Absolutely nothing wrong with thinking about the future and planning ahead.
They are recruiting him. Not stalking him. Big difference.

Imagine how a high school freshman must feel , how his family must feel knowing that if he continues doing well and keeps his head on right that he will most likely never pay a cent towards his college education. Imagine how he may live his life differently if that were not the case. I think it is a good deal for this kid and his family. They must be elated at the opportunity.

He is a gamer. Looks a lot like a young Chris Speilman , and only a freshman. Nose for the football , that is for certain.

A 2% life opinions mean an awful lot to us until you ruin it by not knowing what you are talking about. A lot of top recruits we get when its very close with other top schools, we win b/c we were their first school to offer.

And SOOOOO glad we did. Because if we hadn't gotten in early on that young man, he would be playing for one of our rivals for sure. Case in point. The first offer is always the most meaningful.

Young players need to grab the scholarships while I can, before the legacy recruits scarf them up!

No offers until late junior years would make more sense.

I'm thinking more Zach Thomas, Clay Matthews, Jarrett Johnson, Brian Urlacher, Peter Griffin.

He looks like hes going to grow into a defensive end. 220 as a freshmen in high school is crazy.

We have to start preparing ourselves now if we're going to be able to compete with "why"oming coming onto our schedule.. If we land him he'll be a redshirt sophomore and hopefully gotten plenty of reps by then to keep us in the game.

They are allowed to offer but....

They are not allowed personal contact until kids are jr's. That goes with the rule about caches not being allowed to talk about verbal commits or prospects, by name, to the media. Only after LOI or signing financial agreement, can they speak of them by name. This isn't even early by today's standards. Couple of years ago, Southern Cal offered a kid in 8th grade. He was 13 years old and a QB. Besides that its not "risking a scholarship" because offers, verbal or written, are not legally binding, as with verbal commits. They can be pulled at any time.
