Should Morris Stay or Go?

Dec 5, 2012, 6:43 AM

As we've seen, Morris is a candidate at a few schools, but should he stay or should he take the best gig and go?

Here's why we think he should go - not because of hard feelings, but because of what's best for him:

What's the evidence that Morris has been offered any position? In order for Morris to go there has to be someplace to go to.

I'm not saying there is any, though I think he could have had the job at NC State if he really pushed for it.

Also, I think both Auburn and Arkansas settled. Auburn went with what was comfortable and Arkansas just hired a guy that went 7-5 in what was one of the worst years in the Big 10.

We're saying he needs to take the best position offered to him.

he was recruiting last night in Orangeburg. He'll be here for a couple more years.

Coming from a guy that has chased the next "great job"

Dec 5, 2012, 6:55 AM

it ain't what it's cracked up to be. Just a few months ago I reached both my professional and salary goals; however, there are several previous jobs that paid half of what I make now and where I was second in charge that brought me more happiness and peace of mind. Chad should wait for that head coaching job that he wants. Being s successful OC at Clemson and the highest paid in the business is a great situation. Why give that up for the best job offered if it's not going to make him happy?

I think you're right in that he shouldn't leave for any job, but I think he should leave for the best job that's offered.

I've never pictured Morris as a career coordinator, like a Mickey Andrews. He's going to take over a program at some point, I just don't want to see him miss his opportunity.

The Cousin Eddie route is not always the best. Sometimes the shop never comes - just ask Bud Foster.

The blog says every coordinator worth their salt wants to...

...be a head man. Not sure I agree with that. Some great coordinators seem content in their role.

I think Chad Morris will be a great head coach but just not yet. Give him two more years here so he can become more adjusted to college football. Plus being at Clemson for four years will show prospective colleges he does commit to a job, provide him a better insight to recruiting and dealing with student athletes. Plus the program will have to be a great fit, he cannot go to a school like Bama that does not run a wide open offense because it will take too long to recruit that type of player, plus family concerns. The program has to fit his family life style.

What makes you think Morris will be a great Head Coach?

Dec 5, 2012, 9:16 AM

A head coach's skill set is much different than a coordinator. A coordinator can be lazer focused on his area and not worry about how it impacts other areas of the team. A head coach has great organizational and leadership skills and is less about Xs and Os.

I haven't seen that yet out of Morris. Maybe he hasn't had the opportunity to show it yet. I'm willing to be persuaded so I want to hear your perspective.

I agree with you though, someone like Morris needs to be very selective in where he goes because of the system he runs.

Maybe it should read most more than every, but I can only name a handful of coordinators that never desired to move on to a head coaching gig. Most notably Mickey Andrews.

Most guys are Type A and want to be the man - just the nature of their personality.

Stop making it complicated

He needs to stay and honor his contractual commitment to Clemson University.

While I would agree with you, contracts in sports have no obligation other than money. No one ever actually finishes a contract. If you do well, it's extended. If you don't, you're fired.

Morris is here for the next 2 years...that is about what I expected after season 1 here...but we will be fine with whoever Dabo hires after the next 2 seasons...
