Should Dabo recruit professional wrestlers?

3

I took my mom to the Spring Dustoff on Sunday night. For those that didn’t attend, it was a professional wrestling event held at Old Crow Barbershop on N Pleasantburg Dr. We were a few beers in when my mom compared one of the show’s stars to Wade Woodaz. If Wade wasn’t probably making a few million off NIL, I’d think it was really him working a side hustle.

Anyhow, it all got me to thinking. These wrestlers are clearly elite athletes. Legends like The Rock, Roman Reigns, Goldberg, and even Lex Luger played football before opting to chase superstardom in the ring. If college coaches were smart, they’d flip the ###### and recruit these guys to play football. Can you imagine how awesome it’d be to see stars Mad Dog Josh Powers and D’Angelo crushing quarterbacks skulls in Death Valley instead of at the barbershop?

I brought it up to Dean Richards when trying to get him to autograph a piece of his broken hockey stick I found on the ground for my mom. She really has a thing for him. FWIW, Dean said he’d probably give it a shot if Dabo asked.

The Rock, Lugar and Goldberg...

Went into wrestling after they were cut from NFL teams. Ron Simmons is another one. All had very successful careers. But, none were good enough to make a successful career out of football.

Ron Simmons was a really good player at FSU, don't know why it didn't pan out in the pros.

That sounds like NFL propaganda to me. It’s way more likely that those guys dumped their NFL teams to chase title belts, adoring fans and millions of dollars.

If you’ve ever been to a professional wrestling event, you’d know that is where the real hotties hang out. I’ve got a system where I don’t even try to talk to the 10 hottest girls there knowing that they’ll likely hook up with one of the athletes.

the Panthers selected Goldberg...

in the 1995 expansion draft, surprised his real name was Bill Goldberg. As for the thread starter's ?, we should recruit them but only if they show signs of cauliflowered ears and ONLY if both great houses: the Richardson & theTepper clan approve of the professional wrestler in question.

Saw Ernie at Sirine Stadium in Greenville back around ‘74 or ‘75. Huge IWA outdoor show. He was a big dude!

No to the Wrestlers, but YES to the Power Lifter Guys

May 2, 2023, 9:59 AM

I was watching the Power Lifters on TV a couple of years ago - dragging cars, running with 300 lb. concrete slabs etc. Unbelievably strong, and BIG. I instantly thought => Dabo, go get 'em - put 'em on the OL, maybe DT. Much better than the wrestlers IMO.

I think you’re underestimating the importance of flexibility, body control and explosiveness when it comes to success in football.

My mom used to date a power lifter and the dude would ask me to tie his shoes because he couldn’t bend over and reach his feet. I was happy to see him go because his feet smelled like ###.
