If we had the same national exposure and national following as Notre Dame, I say we secede from the ACC and go Independent. They play a hodgepodge schedule, stellar defense, very mediocre offense, and still managed to win all their games and play for a National Championship. I really think that if Clemson Athletics (i.e. Football) wants to be relevant nationally, the culture needs to change. The facilities are in place. The fan base is in place. We got the $$$. Recruiting is good, for what that's worth. And, overall, I think the coaches are in place. The ACC ain't gettin' no stronger football wise, and Clemson ain't never and never will be a basketball town. And be honest with yourself: Is being ACC Football Champions really that impressive these days? I mean...we got an over-rated 10-2 team playing a non-relevant 6-6 team for the conference championship. At the same time, whoever wins the SEC Championship will play for the National Title. Again...if Clemson wants to compete on a National level, things need to change.
