I'm not sure how different it would look with all the same players.

Fair point. I don't think Lane would roll out the players that Dabo/Riley does. That I'm sure of.

OK, I'll play your game: You'd rather have classroom success than football success? Yes or no?
I think it's painfully obvious some of you boomers STILL don't realize this is now a semi-pro league. Players are getting paid. It's no longer about academics. It's about winning.

Ain’t got no time for school! These are semi professional people once they made bag. I want some of those big, mean, fast guys with bad intent.

Yes. I want big, mean, nasty players like the ones who beat SCAR’s ##### during the brawl of 2004.

Looking at his recruiting, Spiller had a 3.5 GPA.

The fact that Watkins and Spiller enrolled here should silence that talk about "academics".

Kiff has grown up.
He single handily beat us in the NCG in 2915. That TE call was beautiful call. Dude can play call…

Would he run Randall outside and have success then never run it again? Not sure if he could be as creative as Rileys run it between the tackles play everytime. Lol.
Or the WR screen which hasn't worked in like ever.

Would you trade Lanes list of accomplishments since 2008 for Dabos?

Remember, Lane was a potential candidate to replace Tommy Bowden, Clemson went with Dabo. I think Clemson made the right choice.
And just in case someone attempts to claim Lane Kiffin was not a potential candidate because another school hired him in late November of that year…

Of course not. But going forward, things have changed dramatically in CFB. It's an apples to oranges argument. At the time, Lane wasn't the right choice. But he's grown. Has Dabo?
I could ask you a similar question: Would you rather have a coach who has adapted to this new environment or one who clings to the past?

Lane has never lost fewer than 2 games in any era.
Sep 27, 2025, 8:46 PM

He’s also never won a conference championship in a power 5 conference in any era. Finally, Lane has never led a team to the playoffs in any era.
Add to that he has had 5 different jobs since 2009 and habitually underachieves on defense.
So no, I would not want Lane at Clemson.

Fair enough. But I'd be willing to bet he'd win the ACC in his first year at Clemson.

Agree don’t want lane Kiffen to coach at Clemson. With that being said he would still do a lot better over the next 5 years than Dabo.

I find him entertaining, but his track record is pretty well established. I put him in the same category as Lincoln Riley, Mike Leach, etc… Very good coaches, but always seem to lose at least 2 games a year to teams they probably shouldn’t.
Maybe this year will be different.

Personalities aside, would you rather have a dinosaur or a coach to adapts to the CFB environment?

I didn’t say anything about Dabo continuing to run our program now did I? If Dabo steps down I really hope Kiffen isn’t one of our candidates.

Kiffin is a heck of a good coach and offensive coordinator, but he lacks character. That is why he is hated.

I can't play, I'm a Lane fan and have always considered him Spurrier light...

the man, the myth, the legend that gave us Free Shoes University and so much more....
Also, Lane has gone after Ole Miss fans saying The Rebel home field advantage was more a HS crowd in a college football stadium. He even claimed he'd been trying for 2 years on social media to get the homies to wrench it up. He went on to say that because there was no college atmosphere, it forced the staff into a teaching moment to get his players to fight through the lack of it. Lane gold.

It would look a lot better….because Cade wouldn’t be QB and Riley wouldn’t be the OC.
