Sec espn problem

One problem I see is that espn is in serious contraction mode. They are firing on air and auxiliary staff left and right. If say two more teams were added to the SEC, the conference would require at least enough more money so that the new teams share of the pie does not dilute the original members. And honestly I would think the sec would expect a significant pay bump PER TEAM or why do it??? Seems to me that espn would balk and would point out they don’t have the money. In the current climate. Perhaps the big ten would have more available cash. Thoughts?

For all of espn’s current issues, the SEC and their network are a bright spot and cash cow for them. If adding the right teams added value, they will pay it.

If we were in the SEC, I honestly believe that we could recruit right along with Bama and Georgia. So if anything would pissss the teams in the SEC off about Clemson coming in, that is what it would be, and most of them know it!!!

Don’t worry about ESPN they will just get more from the cable and streaming providers. Up their charge per subscriber and then the providers have to up their prices and people complain about the providers with no clue what these channels want to charge per subscriber. ESPN is the most expensive and not sure how high it could or can get.

The SEC does not need 2 more teams.

They might not, my Friend, but further expansion is

precisely what I expect to happen along with the B1G...something I've believed for quite some time.

The reason? Money. Money. Money...and more Money.

The next question: which additions? My quess: they will try to solidify their southern imprint, which would mean the best P5 programs REMAINING IN THE SOUTH. lol

I agree.
It is totally a money deal. Any school must bring in 200M PER YEAR to a TV package to even be considered for membership.
Like it or not, ND is the only school out there that can pull it off.
Plus, the SEC just completed a contentious 9 game format to include UTex/OK. Despite what Sankey may want, the member schools will not go through this exercise again until the 2030’s. (Personally, I really like the 3 perm, 6 rotating format)

I'm just scratching my head at th teams in the ACC. I like Clemson's President and AD but why every President and AD in the ACC thinking this contract they all signed was a good one is a head scratcher. The ACC literally got played. To sign a contract for that many years in the ever changing landscape that is college football is mind boggling. I could see that many years IF there were exceptions giving room for renegotiation of TV money but what was done is the equivalent of making the ACC the Dollar Tree of department stores. The fact the leaders of this conference wanted so badly to be relevant and have an ACC Channel they signed the worse deal possible. They all knew both the SEC and the BIG 10 would be in line for major TV money soon and they still signed a contract that didn't even pay them the same as the SEC and BIG 10 right now much less what they are about to receive. People should be fired. I know the worse commissioner in the history of college athletics Swofford who brokered this deal is gone but other people who helped that are still there need to be fired. The lack of common sense to look ahead at what was coming is astonishing. It's bad when teams are trying to figure out anyway to get out this horrible deal before the halfway life of the contract. The life of the ACC was more important, apparently, than each individual school. I mean 2036!!!! Who thought that was a good deal, obviously ESPN. FIRE EVERYONE. The way I look at it fight in court if not pay the money. Which is worse, lose more money and be relevant or lose less money and not relevant. I can't believe they agreed to this contract through 2036 knowing at the time of signing it college football was at levels not seen before. So they signed a contract that allowed for zero renegotiation for 20 years. Unbelievable....
