Shaw and/or Lattimore Will not Last a Full Season

Aug 31, 2012, 6:32 AM

I don't want to see anyone get hurt seriously, but if Connor Shaw goes down this team is done. There is a huge drop off in talent and QB at 2nd string.....Lattimore will not be the same runner he was and they have no receivers.

If we play the team we saw last night it we be a blood bath.

One thing you can count on is that Spurrier will risk the heath of his players to win at all cost.

USCjr may not win 8 games this year.

Especially Shaw.He is a good runner, but he has to learn not to take on a "D" back head to head.He needs to learn how to slide.

Actually Shaw was down when the Vandy player's knee hit him in the back of his shoulder. Kind of like how auburn speared Kyle Parker, but Vandy's hit was clean. Anyway - I agree that Shaw will not last. In fact, I think he's hurt more than they want to tell everyone. SUC might be in a world of hurt with Shaw out for a few games.

Spurrier coaches his QB's to slide head first and we got a preview of a banged up Shaw( it's gonna be a long season)

I'd give Shaw credit for trying to hang tough, as I'm

certain he knew how critically he was needed. Most of the Gamecocks' "game" problems, I attributed to it being their first game, although their secondary is questionable. Regardless, no one would want Shaw, Lattimore or anyone else to get serious injuries, although if they want to take an extended Thanksgiving holiday with their families, we won't object. lol

Questionable Coaching strategy

Aug 31, 2012, 7:40 AM

Looked like Shaw was on pace for 20 carries and maybe 10-15 hits / tackles in the passing game. By year end, Shaw will have taken over 300 hits from competition. That seems to be a lot.

I don't know who was calling the play, but when their 2nd string guy was in he ran it twice and threw once given lattimore no touches. That was strange.

SCU looked way worse in the Vandy game last year and

Aug 31, 2012, 7:56 AM

they ended up with a great season so don't count them out yet. Even though it was very ugly it wasn't all doom and gloom. SCU was able to run the ball at will throughout most of the game and having a mobile quaterback is a huge plus, but I agree that if Shaw and Lattimore continue to carry the ball that much and take those hits it could be an early end to the season for both of them. Their front seven on defense also looked good. Man, Shaq Lawson had a heck of a game and was probably the single biggest factor for why Carolina won. The obvious weaknesses we're the inability to pass, lack of any real receiving threats, and shaky secondary. This SCU team last night reminded me a lot of the Clemson team from '08 with a slightly better quarterback.

True, but Shaw is no surprise this year

Aug 31, 2012, 10:04 AM

Now that there is a lot of film on him, it will be easier to exploit his weaknesses. Last year when Garcia went down, Shaw was good enough and the #2 guy to make things happen with his legs. This year Shaw is not as fortunate with his number 2 QB and Lattimore will not be the same guy.

I expect a lot of teams to stack the box and dare them to beat them with Shaw's arm and legs.

If he already has shoulder problems after game one, that is not good.

I posted long time ago that the cockerel's would go 6-6 this year even give them maybe going 7--5 after last night I now know I was wrong they will be very lucky to go 5--7
Today I'm sure Shaw is in a lot of pain now that the magic of game time locker room has had time to wear off
When ML got chest hit and his helmet came off and the ball came out the only thing he was trying to catch was his helmet

Shaw more than Lattimore

Aug 31, 2012, 8:14 AM

There is no way he makes it through the whole season, especially when he's going to be taking hits from Georgia, Florida, LSU, etc

And even if he does make it through the season? The passing game was terrible, he was 3/6 for 23 yards BEFORE he got hurt. I think that says more about the WRs than him because he was not like that last year, but still

Re: Shaw more than Lattimore

If his arm holds up he might become a better passer because now he will be scared to run his legs won games last year, the strong prey on the weak and now ever team knows Shaw & Lattimore are not 100%

They're nothing but tools to him and he'll run them into the ground until they're done.
