Points surrendered in the first quarter through five games: 0

Points surrendered in the last four games: 82*

*Of those 82, 55 have been scored when Clemson held a lead of at least 28 points. ALL of the 82 have been scored when Clemson held a lead of at least 13 points.

Puts that average of surrendering 20+ PPG over the last four games into perspective, doesn't it?

I tend to take off the garbage points that we give up late in games. Mainly to APP ST, NC St and Standford. The PPG given up with the starters in is more around 17.6

early in morning and late at night.

The scoring defense means very little when it comes to game situations.

0 points surrendered in 1st quarter for the season is a crazy stat after 5 games. I would say that is solid defense from our Tigers.

Efficiency numbers are much more telling. We are around 20th in FPI and SP+. Pretty good but not elite. I think that’s a fair assessment

Anyone with an eye can see this defense isn't as good as the ones with Venables.

I am not saying that they are horrible; they are just okay.

We even had more significant leads in the TL era, subbing the same number of players on the depth chart, and didn't give up the same number of points and yards. We rank 80th in defense, after playing four subpar teams and UGA.

You can spin it any way you want to, but our offense carries us this year. Numbers don't lie.
