historical collapse. The only reason this team didn’t choke the game away is b/c Baylor missed all of their front ends of their 1-and-1s and the tying FTs at the 30-second mark. Again, I am excited about the win as anyone, but I’m not pumping sunshine after nearly blowing a 15-pt lead in the last 6:15. Again, it took a monumental team FT collapse for us to still be in this tournament.
I want this team to be excited to be moving on, but they did everything wrong down the stretch and without Baylor flubbing it worse than us, we’d be calling for Brownell’s head.
That’s the reality. I can praise this team for the first 7/8 of the ball game, but they are lucky to be moving on after that last 1/8.
And, my concern is

Or maybe the team did enough to win the game. Come on give them props. Basketball is a game of runs and our team scored more points which is all that matters We had our best player in foul trouble for most of the game we had a 58% free throw shooter nail four free throws at the end of the game. You can call it an almost historical collapse but I will call it a great win in the tournament.

What a freaking Eeyore! We beat the 3 seed convincingly, holding off a furious run by them. You're just laying the groundwork for a CBB beat down when we finally lose. 🤡

There was no “furious run” by Baylor, we just started playing terribly (clueless Brownell’s MO) and Baylor started to come back. They missed a ton of good looks. It happens. We were just on the lucky side this time. Credit to Chase, Joe, Chef and Godfrey. PJ hurt us more than he helped us again. Clark also didn’t finish strong with a dumb foul on a box out and deer in headlights turnover (steal) at end.
But it was fun to watch! Moving on!

what does their age matter? They're college kids competing against college kids. It's all relative. But your "barely 20" doesn't hold water. Schieffelin was the youngest at 21. The rest of the starters this weekend were 22, 23, and 24 years old.

3:29 during the 11-2 run that cut our lead from 15 to 6. During that run we didn't really do anything disastrous. Missed a couple of shots and we got tied up and lost possession on the jump ball.
It was AFTER that 11-2 run that we seemed to tighten up and start making bad mistakes.
And you also have to give them some credit because they really, really upped the intensity over those last 6 minutes.

lots of teams get down and mount comebacks. TAMU did against UH. The Tigers have done it this year.
Fifteen point leads are not safe at this level. Much like a football game where one team has a great first half and the other team has a great second half, basketball can be even more mercurial.
Though I didn't jump in the argument (I don't think), I was frustrated, especially at the end of the season. Now, I'm going to appreciate the team for making a Sweet 16 slot and pull for them to take down Zona.
Next year will be next year, with its own outcomes. For now, let's love the ride.

nearly 77 years, it's that ole Lady Luck is sometimes needed for success.
To this day I consider it a stroke of great luck (enabled with a certain skill) that caused that ball on 4 and 16 to land in a diving, sliding Nuk's arms. Or the Orange crush play that diverted the Bama defenders enough to produce the winning catch by Hunter for that 2016 title. Told friends last night I believed it was luck that Baylor couldn't connect when they needed it.
It's an oversimplification, I'm sure, mostly superstition, but I've learned to take a win despite the what if's, etc. No doubt, our guys had the skills to take advantage of Baylor's lack thereof, and we won.
Not many gave us a chance to win, including a fair share here on ole TNet. Not many gave us a chance to win either national football title. Yet, we did both on the gridiron and last night on the court. I'll take them anyway we can get them! I'm sure you do, too.

I’ve been plenty critical of Brownell but give this team credit. They were playing a very good team and led wire to wire. End of story.
Sure, they had a few pucker moments in the last few minutes but they overcame some garbage foul calls and hit their own critical foul shots. They won the game - Baylor didn’t lose it.

Did you see when PJ teared up talking about his coach and you horrible schmucks? He said you creeps have marred his time at Clemson. Any concern regarding mental toughness is fake - you a$$holes rag the players and the coaches, then ask why they are distracted. It’s amazing to me that the vast majority on here never even played church ball. What did you do in winter as a kid? Basketball is not a pretty sport, it is a game of runs. Even the best players miss shots, turn it over, etc. We may lose the next game, we may win. But nobody on here has the right to harm Clemson. Those doing so are ignorant fools and many have 100% idiot ratings. Many of you are pathetically ignorant and certainly did not attend Clemson. Looking in the mirror is painful, but needed. I’ll be back in August, you people are sick pups. Go Tigers! Tell them JG, kiss it jerks…s t f u

I've been critical of Brownell too and have to disagree. Baylor lost the game with horrible FT shooting. If Baylor had tied the game at 66, I doubt Clemson would have won. Brownell is not very good at coaching really close games. However, I'll take the win. Celebrate until 7:00 PM Thursday.

And for 37+ minutes Clemson controlled every aspect of the game.... The run happened very late and after the Tigers had achieved a lead that seemed almost insurmountable. Those Baylor Bears fought their tails off to the very end....BUT Clemson DID indeed hold them off and got a huge W
Enjoy the W, no need to fret over a run that was bound to happen. Every Clemson fan was most likely on the edge of their seat wondering what might happen at the end, you are not alone in that. If you watch enough basketball it happens ALL the time between somewhat evenly matched teams when one teams climbs out to a big lead then the other team storms back.
Michigan State run UNC around for about the first 8 to 10 minutes and mounting a nice lead ?? UNC beat them down as they maintained composure, kept playing and won the game easily. A winning culture and a good team is a hard combination to beat, but it can be done. UNC is a tournament team, once they are in then they are trouble because of that Culture of winning.
Go Tigers, beat Arizona!!

There is a common theme to all of our late game troubles. In every single game, when we had a substantial lead, we changed our offense and went into delay mode with 6 to 7 minutes left in the game. Way too early to start stalling! Keep playing the game that got you the lead!

We also did this without 2 of our best players playing their best. Others stepped up and this has proven to be a real team effort. With Hall constantly in foul trouble, Brad made some good in-game adjustments. Sure, we have to step it up the deeper we go but I think these guys already know that.
If all you want to do is point out your negatives, then I feel sorry for you that you can't truly enjoy a team coming together at the right time.

A win is a win.
If you give Baylor credit for almost coming back from 15 down you have to give Clemson credit for having the 15 point lead AND hitting the free throws at the end to seal it.
I usually blame poor shooting on the team shooting rather than defense unless there is an obvious reason to credit the defense, but Clemson's defense was really active and they just held 2 teams well below their season average.

Baylor also never had the lead throughout the entire game. And the only time it was tied was at 0-0.

Had the lead for 2 games in the tournament so far for all but 30 seconds. All that matters is final score.

I was a little worried when Baylor closed the gap so quickly. We did have a couple of mental lapses such as the terrible pass by Hunter, but those things happen when the opponent suddenly seizes momentum. And that phantom foul called during that stretch to foul out PJ was a joke.
But I think we should praise Baylor for giving that effort rather than criticize our guys for letting the comeback happen. The bottom line is that we were clutch when it counted. That’s what makes our team different now than the second half of the regular season when we lost some games we should have won.
I’m not worried about any collapse against Arizona. Sure, they are a great team capable of winning it all. They are capable of beating us soundly if we don’t play well. But we certainly have the talent to beat them. The pressure is all on them.

Teams make runs. Teams miss FTs. Clemson had a 56 percent FT shooter make four to seal the game. RJ has been putting in extra work with coaches. Stop looking for negatives and move along.

Are you going to address your spiteful comments to Coach Brownell on twitter?
