Why don’t one of you computer savvy guys….

Dec 15, 2022, 7:40 PM

Post the story on ESPN app about NLRB suing USC and the NCAA. Suit holds that college athletes are employees of their schools and have the right to unionize and take part in collective bargaining.

I’m too old and dumb to know how to do it.

Thanks!

like that being opened.

If so, collegiate athletics will become full-fledged professional with the tails wagging the dogs.

Beating my dead horse, again.

Blame the schools. Not just the athletic departments. Blame the presidents and the board of trustees. They worked very hard at making the primary purpose of their football and basketball teams to be the minor leagues for the NFL and NBA. They worked very had at making academics incidental and optional. They worked very hard to set up a system where their players, many if not most, of them were not the least bit interested in earning a degree.

Three rules of farming.
1. You reap what you sow.
2. You reap more than you sow.
3. You reap it later.

It's reaping season.

I call BS on "most, of them were not the least bit interested in earning a degree".

On any given team there are probably 3-5 guys that have shot (on a top-10 team, maybe 8-10). There are probably another 10 that believe they have a shot. The rest of them are there to play and to earn the scholarship knowing full well that there is no NFL future for them.

In high school, I was a good cross-country runner. Usually came in top 3-5 places at regular season meets, led my HS team for two years, got MVP trophy, qualified for state twice. But I never won a meet, and my best day at state was 33rd and my PR for 5k was 17:00...I just could not break through. I knew I was "good" but not "scholarship good". I was there every day because I enjoyed it, I liked my teammates.
