Saying the 12 team playoff will fix things is plain ignorant

No, by this happening now, the 12 team playoff is going to be worse. Why? Because instead of this mystical committee getting one opportunity to be corrupt with only 4 teams, they will have 3 or 4 chances to do the same thing but inside a bigger fish bowl. The beast is growing not shrinking. It's all corruption at the highest levels of college athletics. There should be lawyers involved before next year gets even worse.

If a team doesnt make the top 12, so be it. It would solve the isssues this season.

If you think the stacking of SEC teams with marginal records during the BCS pole time was bad wait until next year, they will load it to push those teams in over other conferences. (Strength of schedule argument) This will be a Big 10/SEC playoffs with a few others because they have no choice per rules.

Give me a break! Any change is better than having only 4 teams in the playoff.

I would prefer 8 teams because the #4 vs. #5 seed fault line remains in place since the #4 seed skips a round.

4 has been working. 12 will work fine.

People will always complain. You can’t fix that.

What do you mean the goal is to produce a national champion? That's like saying the goal of me taking a s$ht is for the poop to come out of my ####. A national champion is a given, that is not the goal. The goal is to oversee a selection process that is free of corruption.

Because that isn't the goal. National champions existed long before the committee. The goal is to produce a fairly judged group of teams to COMPETE for a national championship. The goal of a job is to pay bills. The goal of the committee is not to create a national champion, because they weren't needed for that before they existed.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Producing a champion is the goal of any playoff.

Who gets to compete in the current scenario will always be subjective: To think a group of people can do that without anyone objecting to their selections is a fantasy. All the arguments for FSU being in the playoff will be a moot point once UGA smacks them down. There is no doubt in my mind that the best team has been crowned national champion since the playoff started. Before then there were some rare exceptions where any reasonable person who saw the results on the field over the course of a season could argue who was crowned champion and THAT was why they went away from the BCS to a 4 team playoff. The expansion to 12 is just to satisfy whiny fans of undeserving teams like FSU and UCF (a few years back) and prove what any reasonable person already knows. Bookmark this post. FSU will lose to UGA.

It will be stacked with SEC and B1G teams. The ACC will get it's conference champion and that's about it.

I don't know what the criteria will be in selecting the 12 teams but I think each champion from the power 5 should be an automatic bit and then the next 7 highest rated.

Is to allow the committee to not only vote a ranking of teams into CFP, but to also allow them to award byes to 4 teams. It’s all about the addiction to manipulating outcomes.

the OP are whining about (undefeated ACC Champ being left out of the CFP) would not be an issue tells me some people on here like to kick a dead horse just to smell it stink.

For those of you who are continuing down this "CFP is corrupt" path please list the specific members of the CFP Committee who are corrupt and in league with this cabal of SEC/Big10/ESPN homers that will take every action they can to prevent more than the ACC Champ from being in the 12 team playoff next year. Here is a link so you can actually read about the rotten SOB's that you so despise as "corrupt":

PS... You'll also need to fire off at Clemson's President - Jim Clements - as corrupt because he's also a managing board member (1 of 11 college Presidents) of the evil anti-ACC/Pro SEC/Big10 CFP cabal:

It's not ONLY about an undefeated champ being left out. It's about the biased process as a whole. Sure, will the conference champs get in next year? Yes they will. But will the same biased process be used to produce slots #6-#12? Of course it will be. That is the problem.

And you brought up great point regarding the actual members. First, not ONLY do we have zero idea how the individual members voted (which is itself a transparency issue), we also have ZERO idea of what input the upper managers provide if at all. So, that is all part of the issue, you are correct.

Why do you defend the selection so vigorously? Do you think this helps Clemson/ACC? Can you not see the writing on the wall with a selection process that is not clearly defined and has a visible bias? Dont you want better than this?

and as long as it is adopted by whatever the Conferences are in College Football at that point I'll be good with it.

However, we also live in the reality of the here and now and some people are all of a sudden losing their ever loving minds over the 4 team CFP system that has been in place for quite some time now. It's not like this particular CFP Committee created a special set of principles or protocols just to screw FSU and the ACC...

Some are also having selective amnesia of just how well Clemson has flourished in the 4 team CFP era and reached the absolute top of the mountain twice. There was no anti-ACC bias or ESPN SEC/Big10 cabal keeping us from reaching our goals and each time we've made it into the CFP top 4 we were rightfully put there by the CFP. We weren't given anything but we weren't denied anything either. I'm not very confident Clemson would have fared near as well in the previous BCS poll error of selecting Champions...

I do have empathy for FSU even though I think the CFP Committee ultimately made the right call. All of the top 6 teams are darn good teams and it is unfortunate that any of them are removed from the playoff. If the CFP Committee had gone another way and included FSU in the final 4 - I wouldn't have a problem with that decision either and could also say "that is the right call" as well. The reason I can go both ways on this is that I recognize that the CFP Committee does not have an axe to grind against anyone. They debated things and made a decision that was in accordance with their protocols and principles. All of which are/were agreed upon by the Conferences.

I can live with the result and not bellyache over it because this was most definitely not some "how can we screw the ACC" and darn the rules we'll just make it up as we go along kind of thing as some on here would have you believe.

At this point, the CFP committee is pointless. They rank the 4 most deserving teams until the last week, when they decide who the 4 best are. This will just carry over with 12 teams. The only absolute guarantee for being in going forward is winning your conference. FSU would have been in it this year, but there would have been 10 SEC/B10 teams in a 12 team playoff this year, and that is what is wrong with the expansion. The likelihood of two ACC teams ever getting into the 12 team playoff is probably minimal.

I definitely expect 3+ SEC teams and 1 ACC team in next year's playoff. ESPN said this morning Alabama had a harder schedule than FSU -- But they lost one of those games!!?? They lost their out-of-conference big game....FSU won 2 of them. This sets up what may happen in the next few playoffs.

Until there are hard and fast qualification rules around it like, oh I don't know wins and losses like every professional major sport and not judgement or eye tests, there will always be problems. Look at the men's basketball tournament. It went from 32 to 64 and now 68 and they still have to argue about who is in and where they are seeded.

Just get the 2 super conferences over with already. Take the top 8 from each and strap up.
