Crowd Crush - UL game.

Oct 14, 2016, 12:21 PM

we were very fortunate there wasn't a serious crowd crush after the Louisville game. I was watching the hill at the end of the game and could see a wave of people starting at the top of the hill moving down and compressing everyone at the bottom. This could have easily resulted in a disaster and my heart jumped up in my throat because it looked very dangerous. Please don't take the University's response lightly.

That is part of the experience of sitting on the hill. I agree that we need to be careful and take the warning seriously, but this typically only happens during big games. It is no coincidence we are hearing about it after the Louisville game. We only get games like that maybe once a year and typically the other games we gather at the paw quite respectfully. Now if the team would make sure the blow out NCST this won't be a problem.

big game or not, the last thing we need is a bunch

of students/fans getting smothered at the base of hill. Back in the day there used to be a chain link fence that would just collapse if too much pressure was applied. Seems like that #### fence was always bent. Now the fence is a little stronger.

I have been going to games since I was 5 (now 42) and I am huge supporter of tradition but I am shocked someone hasn't been seriously hurt.

Just saying.

We sit in section K (to the right of the band) and this scared the crap outta me! I'm 5' 3" and 120 lbs I get "crushed" in crowds a lot on gameday especially trying to get in my gate for kickoff. The people on the outside pushing in don't seem to realize there's a lot of people trying to get out too. We all have to watch out for each other to keep up this great tradition!

Saw this too

From my vantage point in Section K, I could see several of the security personnel climbing up on the fencing to try and wave people back up the Hill. I could not see specifics as to what was happening down below, but it was clear that they were concerned about a larger than usual push crushing the folks at the bottom.

I've followed English football for many years now and, for me, it called to mind some of the stories of crowd crush events in the stadiums of the 80s with all-terrace seating (e.g. Hillsborough and Heysel). It's easy to see how it can get out of hand after a big, emotional win like the UL game.

Then it's a good thing they didn't have to wait any longer

or it sounds like the people at the bottom of the hill wouldn't have survived another 30 seconds.

I was on the hill. There was a student who got extremely bloodied in the face by falling and getting stepped on.

There was a crowd crush after a game in Wisconsin back in the 90s. It was pretty scary. Winning big games is awesome, and by all means, let's celebrate. But please, let's NEVER let this happen at our house!
