Saving it for the CFP?

Oct 1, 2018, 12:10 PM

After re-watching the tam and cuse games, it looks like we have a huge opportunity to get this offense moving at a whole new level.

As I'm sure many of you have noticed, the middle of the field seems to be open for the taking when the QB has enough time for the play to develop. This is a result of defenses rolling a safety over the top of Higgins or Ross. Obviously these 2 guys are immensely talented on top of being physical freaks and most college corners have no chance of covering these guys 1 on 1. And certainly no team has 2 guys who have the size and talent to do it.

What I'm wondering is why we dont run both Ross and Higgins out there more opposite each other and make the defense choose who to double? This way we have a constant 1v1 advantage in the passing game in addition to helping out the running game by keeping the safeties honest.

I like the Higgins, renfrow and Rodgers combination but it seems to me that higgins renfrow and Ross would be unstoppable.

Now I am not so arrogant to think that I see this and the coaches dont so when do ya'll think they will bust out this combination? My guess is they're saving it for the cfp or even saving it strictly for those who shall not be named...

With the length/speed of Ross and Higgins, the middle of the field is a great place for Galloway. Drags and crossing routes should be hard to cover with the other guys running deep routes- lots of stress on the defense if our OL can maintain a pocket.

I saw the Ross/Higgins combination quite often Saturday, but I think it was mostly early. I believe Lawrence is the only one the coaches trust right now to take advantage of the middle. I think Ross is phenomenal, but like most freshmen, his blocking is probably not up to par for when we want to run the ball...

I hope that's true. The kid is awesome. I was just trying to find a reason to not keep that combination in the game. Ross made some key catches Saturday too. I don't want that to be overlooked in the Renfrow and Chase to Tee 4th down hysterics. Although they were clutch too...

Results have shown that since the season has started too. I'm sure he isn't perfect but he seems to be one of our best.

Biggest reason they may not play together more

Oct 1, 2018, 1:06 PM

If both are on the field running routes then both may get fatigued and come off the field at the same time. If they were switching at the same spot then one can always be on the field and fresh.

I like the idea of them both playing but I also like knowing that one of them is on the field at all times.

I think we will see them together more as the season goes but I like how the coaches are working them also.

They were both MONSTERS blocking on running plays this weekend which will help both of them stay on the field for more plays per game.
