Sammy's Suspension

Aug 5, 2012, 6:58 PM

I for one support the decision made by Coach Swinney on suspending Sammy Watkins. Sure, it is easy to say we need him for the Auburn game. We don't. We are loaded as a team on offense. Sammy is great, but he broke the rules. If Coach swinney does not enforce the rules for Sammy, what kind of control of the team will he have. I sure don't want to be like the chickens and shrug it off as he is just being a college kid. It was wrong and Sammy even agrees. The rest of you need to grow up on this board and see life as it really is.

Even if we don't win, I will still support Dabo's decision...he's doing what is best for Sammy and the rest of the team as men.

I cant imagine why anyone would think otherwise

In the end, as I've said all along, Dabo will be judged on the discipline front not based on any single event or any single punishment, but based on whether or not these sort of things occur with any frequency.

I said it in the beginning, and I'll say it again, I won't say suspending him from 2 games is the right move, and I won't say it's the wrong move. Because in and of itself the punishment isn't at all the issue to me. It's how it effects the team and their representation of the school as a whole that I care about.

But one minor point to pick with your post. You say " Sure, it is easy to say we need him for the Auburn game. We don't. We are loaded as a team on offense."

Needing him isn't at all (or in my mind shouldn't be) part of the discussion. He broke the rules. Dabo decides on a punishment. And all that can, in my opinion, be reasonably used to judge that is the behavior going forward.

Both Dabo & Sammy have handled it perfectly!

All I can say.
And I still say we win vs Auburn

I agree - he made a bad decision, not a mistake, so he's....

going to have to pay a penalty. I'd admire DS and SW both for the way they're handling this.

This decisions will go a long way in future recruiting. This let's parents know of future recruits, that you have a coach who cares about his players as young men and not just football players.

I talked with a coach today after church and I asked him that question about how he felt it would hurt or enhance recruiting. He said most definitely it will enhance recruiting. He said the players respect it and want it and the parents of future recruits like it. He said that if a player wouldn't come because of that, then he said you probably don't want that guy on your team.

I agree
