I am feeling a lot of resentment toward Dabo. 2024 Dabo. Pre NIL/Portal Dabo was a legand. No doubt. It seems like every game I watch, every time time I turn the channel, I see something that reminds me of what he isn’t doing. I see that face he makes at the press when he is questioned. I hear the gaslighting.
I hope they look better tonight and show some life on offense. I hope we see the defense from the first the first half last week. If things stay as they are, that resentment will just grow bigger. It really is on him. It didn’t have to be this way.
As I wrote this Mukaba made a great play and was praised again. I can’t be alone in this opinion about Dabo.
Again, this is not the same Dabo from 2011 or 2015-2019 or even 2020. To anyone this may irritate, I’m just giving my own opinion. Sorry.

Dabo is just a man. Like all of us, great success and reward can lead us to trend from humility and appreciation to arrogance and entitlement. I do believe Dabo has been dealing with this. In my case it took a great plunge into a bottomless pit to regain my focus and humility and appreciation for the Lord’s work and blessings in my life, and to realize my prosperity was His work and not my fleshly success. Hopefully Dabo recognizes it sooner than I did. He is a good man, a good coach, and a great representative of Clemson. Some will disagree with me, but when I see him bee bopping all over the field trying to be the ESPN star of the spring games…bobbing his head a lot and breaking out the disgusting “friggin” word over and over…he never used to do that stuff. I’m sure I will get flogged for this and that’s ok. I love Dabo and I love Clemson. He has a great foundation and he will return to it and get this ship righted. We aren’t as far away from where we were as most think.

He's the most entertaining commentator on those spring games. Without him they would be pretty dull these past few years. Frig isn't a swear in anyone's book. You might have liked ken Hatfield.

Why?? There was nothing wrong with Hatfield. He actually won quite a few games. One of the better coaches, he was just becoming a dinosaur. Not much personality to be seen. It's not like he was horrible. He just wasn't going to make Clemson better

I think a lot of you guys have to accept that Clemson had a #### of run but it has ended. College football has changed in the worst of ways and we are no longer on top in the current landscape
Quit looking at our current team through the lense of 2015-2020 and you won't be so disappointed

Because of the dip in production as a result of poor coaching hires, recruiting busts at the skill positions, and the total rejection of using the transfer portal and not bidding for HS recruits with NIL money.
He earned it for sure. But I think we all know it was earned in an era that is long gone.
If he did all the things I listed, the weaker seasons, and the blowouts wouldn’t seem as bad because you would know he was doing all he could.

Yes, it was an AMAZING run!
Yes, college football has changed and we have regressed!
No, we should expect to return to the top. We should NEVER be content with just being good. I was a fan and student during the 1980’s run. Throughout the Hatfield, West, then Bowden days I started wondering if the success of the 1980’s was a one off stars happened to align deal. Dabo came along and showed us it was not a once off deal. Clemson can be a perennial football power. Our administration is 100% behind winning and we have facilities that are top ten. We have championship level fan support. We have championship level traditions. We recruit with top schools. We have challenges for sure. We have to figure out the NIL and portal mess. We have to get our media rights competitive with the big boys. Those are fixable problems. As Clemson fans we should always expect to be in the hunt for championships. I’m not saying jump off a cliff if we have some 9-10 win seasons. But we should push our coaches and administration to strive for greatness always, because it is attainable at Clemson!

AND now a middle-aged man with $100,000,000 invested wisely changes and does start enjoying it & himself which ALL is happening to him as is natural..
But which also shows how unique Coach Saban was since he went thru these life changes and never got showboated..
But in the end NIL & Portal did get him, imho..
which I believe Dabo is presently fighting within and thus maybe the more passive or less aggressive behavior to achieve as a when he was a hungry younger head coach.

If it would have been something that Dabo done himself that would have been put Clemson in the tracks that we've been in since 2021 we could blame Dabo for that, but he didn't do any of that he was force to change what he was doing that was so successful and that left him caught directly in the path of a hard row to hoe. I say that bc there isn't a thing that he do that improve the NIL for Clemson and I'm sure that it has left him angry bc he has been forced to try and build a winning program under totally unfair conditions as the NIL has put him in and I think that has caused character to change...

Greed has ruined it.
Nil and portal, with a lack of oversight, has led to tampering/ headhunting. No team is going to be safe, when there are teams with a large population of alumni and boundless $$$. We saw what happened with Texas a&m. We saw what happened with Mukuba; coaches weren't petting him enough, stroking his ego, and Texas offered him more. Ryan Day can offer huge sums to recruits, but has been failing to live up to expectations for ohst.
And college football is going to continue to change. There will be a separation of the haves and have nots. Let Dabo do Dabo. It took him a few years to get us to the Pinnacle. He deserves the chance to return. He may have just caught lightning in the bottle, before, but let's see if he can do it again.

It’s the exact same Dabo. The game is what has changed. While younger than Saban I think if this is the new normal in college football you won’t have to worry about Dabo and your childish resentment much longer. He has from day one said that winning is secondary to molding kids into upstanding young men with valuable college degrees. He’s always recruited character first talent second. He’s always said “bloom where you’re planted,” and meant it.
I knew that once the cyclical nature of college football took hold and we took any sort of slight dip in results those whose entire happiness rests on the outcome of Clemson football games would turn on him. We are probably going to win ten games again this year and have as good a shot as anyone to win the ACC. Some are too young to remember but there were about 20 years where we just hoped for those kinds of results. Now they cause resentment. Some of you seem to have gotten the idea that we are entitled to be elite forever. By every measure throughout college football history Clemson has been an overachiever considering enrollment, endowment and alumni wealth. Never more so than after Dabo took over. Lord help some of you if 1990s Clemson football ever returns…though I expect a lot of the loudest whiners will be long gone by then.

Good perspective. I hope the 1990’s football doesn’t return. We had 3 coaches in that era, which shows that wasn’t satisfactory then and surely would not be now. I lived through those days and am with you on that. I agree we should be happy with 10 win seasons, and it is way too early to be jumping off cliffs. I slightly disagree in that this program is built to compete at the championship level. We have the facilities, fans, administration support, ability to recruit and are working on the money part (sueing ACC). NIL will always be a challenge as you mention, but we have enough pieces to make runs at championships. None of us know Dabo as a coach or personally, but his public persona under adversity is very different than it was under success, and very different than it was under adversity as a young coach too. I think he will get the ship righted. But if he returns to 1990’s results he won’t likely be around long.

Good one. Pretty funny! But this is year 4 of bad offense.
They were 103rd in the nation in yards per play last year. 4.9 per play. That’s coming off 61st in 22’ at 5.4, and 103rd in 21’at 5.0. They averaged 3.5 against UGA.
I don’t think I’m jumping the gun. Playoff teams usually sit at 6.5-7.5+.
Clemson’s last National Title team in 2018 averaged 7.2.

What do you find embarrassing about this post? Many found it embarrassing that we rolled into Duke last year without a functioning offense. Fans pay through the nose to give Dabo everything he requested so if he fails to produce, have the fans not earned the right to question and discuss the situation? Dabo has certainly earned the benefit of the doubt and many factors like covid and the emergence of NIL were out of his control. In the flip side, hiring unproven coaches and refusing to use all the available tools to help the team is worthy of discussion

If I'm honest with myself, and I am, I love Dabo and all that he represents. I loved him before he started winning at Clemson, I loved him before the game last night, and I love him now.
Dabo understands and loves Clemson, and Clemson loves Dabo!
NIL and the portal are destroying college athletics. My main (and perhaps only) issue with Dabo is his huge salary. But the market dictates that. I just wish he would accept less or donate more.
