Safe punt returns

Nov 29, 2022, 9:45 AM

Why do we never come after kicks? Didn’t we have like 3 blocked kicks in the first 2 games? While watching the game last Saturday, I remember thinking it would have been a perfect time to go for the punt block when it was obvious to everyone that our offense was incapable of moving the ball. I understand not wanting to run into the kicker, but there was ZERO chance our offense was going to be able to move the ball on those last couple of possessions. The coaches weren’t going to put Cade in and DJ was inept. I felt like that was our only chance. Am I alone on this?

You are not. With the exception of that wrinkle they threw in to the return after the safety, I’ve thought for awhile that our special teams lacked any imagination. Never is that more clear than on opposing teams punts.

How do you imagine kicking longer kicks and then kick longer

kicks? I'm guessing I'm not into all that mindfulness stuff, but that fella was kicking 60 yards and ours was not. How do you creatively kick farther?

Opposing team punts. I’m talking about blocking punts, no punting farther

He was never rushed. It's much easier to kick one 60 yards

when you know you have zero chance of it being blocked. It's like shooting 3s in basketball practice. I can make them all day long if I am not guarded. Not so much with a man in my face.
